March 8, 2023 - Intense, fortified wine. Looks lige old Amontillado in the glass, but a little darker. The alcohol is felt.

Salted almond, toasted hazelnuts, wood varnish, pickled orange peel, baking spices, sweet tobacco, rusty water.

    Drink.

January 15, 2023 - Spanish fun day two (N&J's place, Canberra): All the nuts; walnuts; almonds, a little hazelnut, cream, caramel, toffee, apple, sweet spice, a little almond, vanilla, touch of digestive biscuit. Bone dry, saline, walnuts, a little green olive, savoury, tangy, touch of hard cheese, yeast extract, black coffee, very good. Long.

December 20, 2022 - There’s a super flavour array of bitter Seville orange marmalade, dry toffee, cream, nuts and caramel developing spice and richness. Dry but with a lingering, subtle and persistent finish. Takes a little time to open up and Improves with every sip. CHP 89pts

June 15, 2022 - Marco de Jerez from TSA (La Salut, Redfern): Honeyed, apple, biscuit, saline, almond, walnut, figs, yeast extract, cereal. Savoury, juicy, yeast extract, softly textured, walnuts, saline, dried fruits play second fiddle but are very present. Glorious.

May 4, 2022 - Thank you XAVIER AUERBACH for his note (8/6/2017). Very helpful.
This half bottle, now retailing at £15, bears the print out L19122 on the back label. Interestingly the UK label varies from what the bodega has on the website. This appears to be because it is an almacenista bottling by VINIBERIA for the UK market at 15-20 years age. The Viejisimo goes up to 35 or more years.
    ABV: 20%.
Colour: med brown, bright, sl cloudy.
Nose: incredibly full, nutty, complex, classic Palo Cortado, touch of raisin, q dry.
Taste: med body, rounded, hot (see ABV) but still fresh, v ripe, nutty, raisiny flavours that dominate yeasty notes, v long finish, dry, raisins, walnuts.
Overall, this blew me away, bringing back memories of this unusual style of Jerez. Needs to be savoured slowly and let the full flavours develop. With nuts at the end of a meal? A great alternative to a dessert wine.

January 26, 2022 - A very fine Palo Cortado with a nose of dried fruit, toasted hazelnuts, some almonds, chalky mineral and some floral notes. The palate shows the same notes, depth of flavour and high acidity. 91 pts.

December 30, 2021 - Not the best, or the most complex, Palo Cortado, but deserves plaudits for its intensity, and its sheer nuttiness. Roasted and grilled nuts on the nose, tar, some muted floral notes. Also full nut power on the palate, joined by a saltiness, some sweet orange and bitter orange pith, then a long, toasty finish. Just slightly marred by the degree of toastedness on the nose, which verged on acrid at times.
