November 30, 2008 - I stumbled across this at Garnet; for $25, how can you go wrong.

It is, i, fully mature, elegant, and lovely. Very strong floral bouquet..I think, even not knowing its from Clos des Chenes, this is so violet-scented that it's identifiably Volnay. So, it does a nice job expressing the terroir.

This was quite thin and short, initially, and very evolved...bricking substantially to the rim, the fruit isn't really keeping up with the acid, and surprisingly given the elegant style, the alcohol is starting to peek through. It's a tiny bit disjointed, I guess, and I think its a result of it being a wee-bit past prime or not stored well (who knows if these spent the last few years with Chadderdon (the importer) or in Garnet's basement.

I will note that the next day, while a lot of the floral bouquet was lost, this filled out on the palette and gained lots of nice caramelly richness. Very class.

My conclusion is that this is excellent QPR, but only " very good" burgundy.
