October 28, 2023 - Crimson in color. 14.5% ABV. Jammy nose of black fruits, licorice and pepper. Full bodied with medium acidity. Lush and grapey. Blackberry, black cherry liqueur, mulberry and pepper on the palate. The finish is long and supple. Very approachable and for my taste ready to drink.

April 12, 2023 - Very tight upon opening. Needed time to open. Really good after a few hours. Complex. Some acid. Dark fruit. Winner. Age longer though.

December 11, 2022 - After a 75 minute decant, this was tight, bold, and tannic, with some fruit. After the next two hours, especially with food, it became softer and juicier. Really nice, dark, complex fruit. I wish I had opened it up 2-3 hours earlier, but 3 hours in it's singing. Still dark, but nice acidity with a long, long finish.

March 26, 2022 - Briary, blackberry, orange peel and pepper flavors. Drinking well now, but a pretty good future ahead.

November 22, 2021 - I follow with interest the wine writing of Eric Asimov, in the New York Times, but I am consistently struck by how relentlessly ideological he has become -- by how much he insists that the wines he likes are not just to his taste but are objectively superior. For instance, to every question about pairing wine with food, he responds with a reiteration of his belief that only high-acid wines go well with food. That might be a useful general guideline, but it's silly to continue to deny that some richer, heavier wines are also perfectly good with food.

Case in point: This wine, though not devoid of acidity, is in some ways an old-fashioned Californian pleasure bomb -- 14.5% alcohol, unctuously full-bodied, dark and dark-fruited, ready to roll from the moment the cork comes out. And, just delicious with an assortment of Indian vegetable curries, with varying degrees of spice and heat. Often, even wine-drinkers resort to beer with Indian food because the wine pairing seems too challenging, but it turns out that a sumptuous Californian red might be just the ticket.

October 11, 2021 - Pop and pour. Enjoyed in a sailboat in a plastic wine cup.
    Dark purple color.
Nose shows a hint of oak at first that blows off.
Black and blue fruits - cherries, blackberries and some blueberry notes.
Nice acidity that gives lift and keeps this fresh.
    Enjoyable.

July 9, 2021 - Hmm. Maybe my least favorite of the Bedrock zins to date. Maybe caught this in an awkward spot? Brambley style fruit, forward, but hiding behind rather bracing acidity giving it a narrow shut down feeling on the palate. Fine tannins, less so than many of the other Zins. Didn’t strike me on this night. Recheck on night 2.
