May 7, 2021 - At seventeen years this is likely at its peak and should continue to drink well for another decade. Thankfully we still hold a couple more bottles of this vintage. The fill level was perfect while the cork appearing perfect was a bit soft upon extraction using a 'ahso' two pronged cork puller.

Dark garnet colored, medium full bodied, smooth, elegant, briary black berry and black raspberry fruits with notes of cassis, dusty cedar and hints of dark chocolate, herbs and creamy oak turning to gripping tannin on a fruit filled finish.

October 1, 2020 - Still drinking well and like an older world wine but in my opinion getting towards the end of the drinking window as the finish was not very long. Did go nicely with a Grilled NY Strip Steak.

December 25, 2016 - Soft tannins - velvety smooth mature wine. Not too late but drink now.

July 20, 2015 - Very pleasant drinker. Tanins are mellowed nicely. Could stand a bit more time in bottle. Muscular fruit character. Bit of leather. Nice balance. A wood fired steak would have been a welcome pairing.

January 10, 2015 - Well balanced. Expected more tannins based on a few other tasting notes. Girlfriend loved it and she's not a huge Napa cab fan.

September 20, 2014 - We had many fine wines this evening and I have to say the Groth was one of the very best! Velvet smooth... very nice!

May 25, 2014 - Dark violet in color. Black licorice, vanilla and spice on the nose. Full bodied- tannins and acids are in perfect balance now. Drinking beautifully with mild fruits and dark chocolate on the palate. Velvety finish. Had issues with the cork on this bottle, but thankfully, the wine was unaffected.

May 11, 2014 - Opened and decanted 2 hours before dinner of seared tri-tip, grilled asparagus, and baked potatoes. Black sappy purple color. Musty nose brings chocolate cherries, vanilla, creme de cassis, baking spices, and scattered floral and mineral notes. The palate is big and full-bodied, with thick, rich, savory Oakville viscosity, brining loads of blackberry pie, black currant, mocha coffee, cherry chocolate cake, and scattered hints of leather, herbs, and tobacco. The finish is rounding out perfectly with a juicy acidity in check vs. mellow, sweet tannins. This appears to be entering peak drinking, or at least in a very nice drinking window. I'd recommend drinking this 2014-2020.

March 14, 2014 - Very good but seems to be getting towards the end of its prime drinking window. Drink the remaining bottles in the next year.
