May 5, 2024 - A bit off , tangy , not smooth. Not up to snuff.
April 9, 2024 - G5; 4*+9+4.5+8.5*+9+4.5*+4.5=94+ Riedel Performance Chardonnay glasses at cellar temp and warming. Do NOT drink cold! Pretty much pop, pour, drink. Pale yellow-gold color with nice clarity, but not necessarily "brightness." Strong aromatics typical of Aubert with ripe orchard fruits and "kerosene/petrol" notes. Mouthfeel is smooth, crisp with an alcohol/acid close. Flavors are certainly in the pear, apple, peach orchard with that consistent petrol finish, which is not distracting and is probably best described in some other manner (tropical/ pineapple/ butterscotch/ tangerine combo?). It is all there. Add just a touch of Corton Charlemagne minerality for a very balanced profile. Finish is long (of course) with no bad notes coming or going. This is a well-balanced, well-made wine that is drinking quite well now, but there is no reason to assume it won't last many years.
February 24, 2024 - A beautiful chardonnay with a palate of peach, lemon rind and tangerine leading to a long, lush finish. Drank with an oven roasted branzino which my wife convinced me to make. I was pushing for swordfish. Oh well the things we do to make our ladies happy. Again, not too cold, the closer to room temperature the better.
January 14, 2024 - Full bodied and confident in who it is. Delicious, and unquestionably Aubert
December 31, 2023 - There is nothing like that tell-tale Aubert crisp minerality which the 2018 Eastside has in spades. Lemon zest and cashew nuts. Full saturation without ever feeling heavy.
December 25, 2023 - Delicious. Crisp with lots of minerality and a full finish
December 1, 2023 - Wow the 2018 Eastside continues to stun, having found a bit more balance to its rich, buttered citrus and grilled orchard fruit notes, but Aubert's opulence remains. Very, very good indeed.
November 18, 2023 - Two hour decant. Deep golden color. Pineapple upside down cake and grilled pear dominate the rich nose. Plush, juicy palate. Fine, lingering, mouth coating acidity.
This might be tied for best Chardonnay I’ve ever had. The only thing comparable is Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru. Wonderful overall structure and mouthfeel.
September 29, 2023 - Splash decanted for an hour; near perfection & one of the best Aubert chards that I have ever had, drink or hold. I have found that the 18s have needed time to come together & it looks like the time is now. We loved it & it was the perfect match for homemade linguini with cream, parmesan & white truffle (the season has begun!)
September 26, 2023 - What a delicious wine. An expressive and complex nose. Wonderful mouthfeel and a wonderful long finish. Layers of lemon curd, pears, honeydew melons, pineapple and butterscotch. I wish I had bought more at release. Terrific effort by the Aubert team.
