January 30, 2020 - At Bite of Hong KOng

Penetrating powerful botrytis, honey, and an almost minty basil like nose, on top of the more classic middle mosel fruit and slate profile. There is a sense of depth and power here. It was brooding and in need of air. On the palate, it is deep, concentrated, yet light on its feet. Wonderful lift, great combination of power and freshness. Drinking youthfully delicious. I wish I had more time with this, and suspect that the bottle would have been better if I had opened it the day before. Still pretty special.

November 10, 2018 - Unbelievably good. Perfect balance.

October 31, 2014 - From a 375. Terrific minerality acidity and balanced sweetness for a wine that is nearly 25 years old. Beautiful citrus coupled with some aging apricot and a hint of caramel. The thing that is always so impressive about aged Riesling is how well the acidity and sweetness holds up. This is perfectly drinkable right now and appears to be ageless.

December 20, 2012 - Same 375ml bottle I wrote a note on before. About half a small glass has been sitting in the bottle, with cork, in the fridge, since my last note, approximately 6 months ago. Medium to dark orange-brown. Jesus, this is still alive? WTF? Nose shows some oxidation - baked apples and apricots, some brown sugar, spices, baked orange or tangerine peel. Some hints of cooked aspects - sugar and fruit. Enters with the baked elements - peaches, apple, apricot and evolves backwards as the palate progresses - acid and liveliness emerging and conquering. Baked orange peel de-evolves into tangerine and orange, then into searing tangerine, lime and mineral in the finish. What the hell is going on here, was this wine made by Herbert West? Nose - 4/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 6/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 16/20.

November 20, 2012 - Seasonal dinner (Seasonal, NYC): An insane fragrance; high toned floral and spicy notes, honey and a spectrum of Riesling fruit ranging from ripe citrus and baked apple to more exotic pineapple and other tropical flavours; so much going on here that it's hard to put into words. There's tremendous power, intensity and sweetness on the palate - just what I'd expect from a BA - but it has the same blazing acidity and precision as the '90 Domprobst Spätlese poured earlier, keeping it amazingly vibrant and fresh. Thrilling wine.
