November 20, 2023 - Red fruited, some earthy forest floor, still feels quite fresh with good acidity, some mintiness / fresh green herbs. A nice wine, but a bit underwhelming given the price.

March 1, 2023 - Rousseau Gevrey 2002 is not usually a wine I rate too highly but the 02 is astonishing village. Sweet, earthy and sexy in such a relaxed great seductive spot it's stunning if you have a perfect bottle. This was blind twice for me and both times consistent showing, every time among Rousseau GCs (CdR and Ruchottes) and it held it's own generally the vintage a plus despite less complexity than the GCs.

February 4, 2023 - With duck confit and lentils.

Garnet colour with some brick coloring from age. The legs are slow.

Started tight, strawberries, short with high acidity. Opened after about an hour. Developed blackberry, forest floor, black pepper and prune on the nose.

Black currant (cassis), fig, forest floor, mushroom and tea palate. The body is light/medium with silky tannins and plenty of acidity. The wine finishes very long. Impressive but was looking for more power -- slightly light mid palate.

August 17, 2020 - Middle-aged Burgundy with all of the components present but everything comes out very quietly and at its own pace. Soft red cherry, root vegetable/beet root impressions with anise, a slightly menthol quality, a pop of vague spice (cinnamon) and moss. Very silky tannins and showing supreme elegance. I think this just needs time! 5-8 years more easily. Will always show the Rousseau elegance, though. Classy.

August 17, 2020 - My last of 3 bottles, since previous ones showed well when my other ‘02s were clamped shut, was confident this should really be singing today. Not so much: bright crimson red with substantial clear rim; dark cherry, truffles with good body and ample acidity. Unfortunately it has grown more rigid and less pliant and enjoyable. If you have this, I’d hold for at least another few years. This has shut down despite most other ‘02s finally waking up after many years of waiting.

August 25, 2019 - With duck confit, roasted potatoes and green beans.
Pale ruby color, on the nose this is definitely feral and earthy, our friends who were visiting found it charred and smoky but I don't notice that at all. On the palate, this is fully resolved, mature, complex and clean, the fruit is delicious, the wine shows fine structure and stands up well to the rustic food. Good finish. My last bottle and Rousseau prices are now out of sight so I doubt I'll ever taste wines like these again.

November 16, 2018 - Checked another bottle after reading it’s “over the hill”. Couldn’t disagree more. Brought this on a long car ride to visit old (burg loving) friends who moved away. In a great place right now (the wine too!) Spectacular nose of funky cherry, sous bois, blood orange, wet straw and anise. Delicious and with an incredibly long finish. Others called it 95+

April 13, 2018 - Medium tawny. Dried red fruit - cherries, strawberries, liquorice, violets, smoke, meat, savoury, barnyard. Fully developed. Dry, high acidity, medium (-) tannins. Medium (+) finish and very long bouquet. This bottle was in a better place than the last one - fresh, riper, still drinking beautifully.
