June 21, 2014 - Nose: There is a touch of oak that strikes right off, but it pulls back with more air and balances into dark red cherries, roses, tobacco, roasted herbs, and some tarry notes. There is a quiet intensity to the fruit with excellent balance and depth.

Taste: Full bodied with medium/high acidity and silky tannins. The structure isn't overpowering, but it's still there with dark red cherries, roses, tobacco, some oak, roasted herbs, and some balsamic notes poking through on the back end.

Overall: This is drinking beautifully right now. It took about 2 hours to really get going, but once it did, it showed extremely well. The modern influence is there, but this is far from an over oaked Barolo. While there is an intensity to the wine, it isn't overpowering. This is on the earlier side of its window, but one wouldn't be faulted for opening it now.

May 25, 2014 - Another night of Italian wines with friends (Downtown Cleveland): I am not sure if this was a proper bottle, but I think whatever was going on just needed air. At first I wondered about mild TCA, then some other funk, but eventually this settled in and was a very nice Barolo. Ruby in color. With air, the wine offers up cherries, dried roses, some dried wood and some dried fruits. Complex and layered on the palate. This is fully mature, at or slightly past prime as well. Deep and interesting, it kept evolving in the glass as the fruit went from fresh to dried. Nice acidity. Food friendly.

April 3, 2014 - muted nose. tannins a bit rough. very nice but had it next to the spinetta vursu from 2000 and that was much much better in every aspect.

January 10, 2014 - Beautiful and complex bouquet with mushrooms, autumn, leather, tobacco, oak, tar and even still some dark fruits. Same on the palate with the beautiful dark fruits and leather up front. Good acidity and still powerful, firm tannin and drying bitterness. Maturity stage now but a future at least until 2018. Beautiful wine.
