March 9, 2024 - A classy fully mature St. Julien from a regular bottle in a tasting with the 1994 and 1995, side-by-side. Very enticing nose of gravel, graphite, cherries and just a bit of flowers and italian leather. With that I mean very elegant leather, restrained not tending to horse or manure. Elegance is the trademark of this wine. It has very balanced acidity on the palate supporting its structure. Smooth tannins I think reveal that this wine is ready to go. I think it is at its peak. Both the 1994 and 1995 showed considerably younger. Both of them appeared not to be as elegant as the 89. The 1994 had more forward fruit, a nose of more intense leather and gravel, less cedar elegance. A very drinkable wine that can nonetheless be in the bottle for a bit longer. the 1995 appeared the less compelling of the 3, with some imbalance between its somewhat alcoholic fruit and its acidity living on two separate layers and not enough body to support either. It is a pleasant wine but somewhat (at this point) inferior to the other two. I look forward to compare again some of this wines.

February 22, 2024 - Deep garnet core, aple rim. Nose shows red and balck berries, touch of gravel. Slightly reticent. Medium bodied, red-toned fruit, cedar, decent length but slightly drying tannins on the finish.

February 22, 2024 - 1989 Bordeaux Horizontal - London (Piccolino, Exchange Square): Inky blue fruits here. Cool and savoury. Palate classical Barton with lots of cedar and classy plum fruits. Palate has a lovely spiciness. Tannins are resolved. With air a subtle star anise character emerges. Very classy.

January 12, 2024 - Still a tad tannic right out of the bottle. Decanted half the bottle for 30 minutes, tried, then added the rest to decanter. Nice nose after decanting that wasn't there upon opening. Enjoyed the bottle, fun to drink an older wine.

(Chateau Leoville-Barton) Out of the gates a nose of toasty earth, cinnamon, slight Cabernet bell pepper aromas, wet earth, mint, red currants. After a while in the glass it got very floral and really developed. A hint of white pepper. Soft palate with nice silky mature red fruit flavors. Great concentration and a cool hint of wintermint life saver lingers on the finish with some slight unevolved tannin. Very nice.
