August 15, 2017 - BIG evolution over the past 18 months. This wine is one of those strange cabs that sit backward for a decade and then peak in a few months suddenly. I love the stage this wine is at now. Nicely balanced between big ripe fruit with some secondary nuances. Terroir is also evident those mostly melded with the forest floor funk that just developing now. Excellent wine.

April 26, 2017 - I would not have known or have described this as being disappointing - if it were not for the other reviews.

This wine was delicious - but felt like a watered down jam - rather than a big spoonful of fresh preserves.

It had a lot of dirt, vegetation and mushrooms with red fruit. However the finish was short and left you wondering if it needed more time. But through the evening it did not come to life. It definitely opened up and after 2 days seemed to loosen up completely in the bottle - but again, medium minus tannins and almost no finish at all.

November 19, 2016 - Disappointing wine. We decanted over two and a half hours, and while the wine started backward, linear tannins, tight red berry fruit and heat. We paired this wine with venison tartar with biltong shavings. That proved to be a terrible pairing as the iron of the game led to highlighting the aluminum flaw in the finish of the wine. After about 80 minutes, the wine went really dumb on the palate and showed mostly soapy fruit with an abundance of camphor on the back palate. Past two hours, the bouquet developed but the body remained mostly dumb. I get the sense that acidity was low. Mouthfeel is quite thin, almost like water. My pairing at two hours was an elk chop, which should have been perfect for a Napa Cab but this wine lacked the mid body fruit and structure to complement any red meat.

Strangely, this wine isn't showing any nuances of forest floor, truffle or mushroom that one would expect after nearly a decade in the bottle.

QPR is awful for this wine.

    All in, quite disappointing.

October 25, 2016 - Good, not great. Will see day 2 how it holds up.

September 24, 2016 - Fabulous expression of Phelps fruit and heritage. Dark fruit superbly balanced by earthy tones and silky tannins. Still a very youthful wine. Could have held on to it for another 10 years... but why? It was so good now.
