March 2, 2016 - Fine Wine Room Opening (Acker Merrall): I was very excited to try this wine and I'll admit a bit disappointed. It's just much too young. I think 2005 was a growing season to age and this isn't even close to the drinking window yet. Fruit is a bit heavy, wine overall is a bit heavy. Nice tannic backbone which will keep it alive, but I'd predict needs at least another 10 years or a much longer decant than it had (opened about 45 minutes before we drank it).4 people found this helpful Comment

February 27, 2016 - Deep garnet. Nose of a rich cab with berry and cinnamon flavors. Taste was rich, mouth filling, very good. But I have had even better from this producer.

January 9, 2016 - We broke this out to celebrate our oldest daughter finally moving out at age 27. It is one of the best bottles of wine I have ever had - absolutely rich, fruit forward, well structured with a phenomenal mouthfeel and a long, round finish. Just perfect.

October 23, 2015 - 2015 New York Wine Experience Trip; 10/19/2015-10/27/2015 (New York City, NY): Still opaque ruby in color, this 10-year-old wine retains its youthful baby fat. Packed with black currants, kirsch, licorice, vanilla and loamy earth on both the nose and palate, it is a full-bodied bruiser with fresh acidity, seamless alcohol and big sweet tannins. Although this vintage of Hillside Select was aged for more than 30 months in new French oak, the oak is nicely integrated and completely harmonious with the wine's other components. There is impressive mid-palate density here, leading to a lengthy, mouth-coating finish. While I would not hesitate to open a bottle now if you have several, I would otherwise give it some additional time in the cellar. It's hard to believe that it can get even better, but I suspect that it will. Drink 2018-2035.
