August 19, 2012 - Mature nose of smoke and currant with similar, mature flavor of smoke, red berries, dirt with a backnote of sweet oak. Ready to drink now, with moderate tannins but a still strapping acidity. Fully mature, drink now. This had excellent storage.

September 8, 2011 - Nice oak, berry and dirt in the nose. Flavors are also vibrant, chocolate, berry, oaky vanilla, earth and very fine, caressing tannins. I cannot see this getting better, probably not going downhill either. Drink within 24 months.

April 5, 2011 - A huge improvement over the same bottling dumped half and hour ago due to corkage. This bottle displayed a nice acidity to balance off the fruit which was remarkably fresh for a 12 year old Cali Cab. Smoke and dirt on the nose, flavors of sour cherry, tar and moderate tannins framed by the aforementioned acid component. Nice finish. Not particulary long-lived in decanter so drink up within 2 hours after decanting.

April 5, 2011 - Another TCA faulty wine...if it were a car it would be called a lemon and government laws would require the company refund my money. What a joke.

August 4, 2010 - I thought this was about as good as it is going to get. Depth and length lapses kept it from scoring higher but still, for a nearly 11 year old $35 Napa Cab, you could pay a lot more and do a lot worse, especially given this was sold in the good old days of anything goes pricing for Cali Cabs. Nose of blueberry tinged paint thinner, but in a good way if that is possible, this wine has a very nice, deep blackberry fruit component, finishing with some length but tannins are a bit drying. While it has age, it is still fresh. The main telltale of age is that that French oak component that was so prevalent a few years ago is barely evident today. I think it has integrated so well that, while there, it just becomes another background component of the complex mix. I could be talked into a 91, but those drying (and probably killing) tannins limit it just a bit. I think Harvey would be happy and I do not think this is going up. Probably stable for the next year or two, I would put this on a list to consume by 2012.
