December 31, 2022 - What an unusual and amazing wine! When trying to determine the color, the words expressed were “peach”, “just this side of amber”, “golden-orange” and yet none of the words captured the true color whatsoever. The nose immediately exploded – no need for gently waking this beauty – with some slight oxidation, brioche, orange marmalade, orange blossom, hazelnut, some yeast. The mousse is mild, as would be expected, but the stream of bubbles – while not seamless – is nevertheless continuous. The bubbles themselves are miniscule; you have to focus to see them. A rich wine with bright acidity expressing exquisite balance. This is an almost haunting wine; it keeps pulling you back into the glass with something different each time, but never fully reveals itself. Definitely one of my top three wines of 2022. 100% Grand Cru from Ambonnay. Disgorged July 2002. Purchased on release. No sediment. 13% alc. With halibut under a crust of walnut & parsley in panko with a side of melted leek “hash” with roasted pancetta. The pairing was spectacular making for a Michelin star quality meal. New Year’s Eve 2022. Highly Recommended.

December 22, 2019 - Stor vin på vei ned. Dyp gul, kandisert frukt, mineraler, kokos og blomst. Litt sliten frukt også i munn, men drikker godt tross alt. Har nok vært magisk for ca 10 år siden

November 23, 2017 - Oh my frecking goodness! Shafts of wheat for color. An intense, concentrated nose of elder flower, golden apple, brioche and hazelnut. The mousse is understandably waning a bit; lacking some of the liveliness it once had. The palate is strung on a frame of great acidity. The palate tracks the nose, but adds a finish of lemon-cream. If you like white wine, you will love this wine regardless of whether you’re a bubble-head or not. 13% alc. With Thanksgiving dinner of roasted squash soup followed by fried quail over sweet potato waffles. Other wines of the night: Dumazet Cuvee Rouelle Midi Condrieu 2012. and Linden Hardscrabble Chardonnay 2006. Highly Recommended.

August 14, 2016 - Sunday Group: 2006 Napa Cabernets (Our house): Courtesy of Neil. Nutty, with apple, caramel and brioche qualities along with candied ginger. Wonderful fruit and depth on the palate with just the slightest toast.

July 27, 2014 - The wine looks yellow gold colored. It smells like grapefruit, orange, toast, coffee and vanilla. It tastes like hazelnut, biscuity and bready. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity. now at its top, 5-10 years to live

December 28, 2013 - Very deep gold in color and bubbles fade fast, but it very much remains a sort of an intense but austere pinot noir dominant powerhouse. That said, I wouldn't keep this in the sense of a future. Back label - 48 months on the lees, disgorged July 2002. No rush to drink - still quite tasty one day on - but in my view it is now as good as it will get.

October 19, 2013 - well, an exceptional champagne. Anniversary year. Opened an hour before drinking, with a bit of food. Since no one else has this wine, why write a note - if you have it, you know what you are drinking :-) i've beeen drinking Egly Ouriet for a decade now...

August 8, 2010 - Not a lot of producers made 1997 champagnes. . This one deserved to be. Still a bit acidic, but the Egly pinot extract is there. 48 months on the lees. Disgorged July 2002. Not remotely in the class with the 90 or 96, but surprisingly good for the vintage.

November 23, 2008 - 100% Grand Cru Ambonnay. Rich, golden colour; rich and deep nose, evolution, Turkish delight; ripe and rounded, minerals, nice little bitter, refined acidity; lovely expressive finish.
