December 17, 2023 - This tastes so young. This has a light gold color, but it tastes primarily of green apple, lemon, cinnamon with very light brioche and nuts. We tried this in the James Darsonville champagne glass which we just bought, and compared it as well in a simple Baccarat Perfection flute as well as a Jancis Robinson wine glass (which is narrow). The latter two were similar, and emphasized the brioche and nuts more than the high toned green apple that predominated with the Darsonville glass. Interesting. Either way, this is young champagne with many more years ahead of it. Very fine.
June 30, 2023 - Obvious depth on the first pour, but this needed an hour to open. Moderate aromas of citrus and nuts. Moderate+ flavors of tart citrus, grapefruit, bread, and praline. Enjoyable now, but somehow still young. Some of the oxidative notes compare to Selosse, but this still needs some time to unwind. Really impressive 95+.
May 24, 2023 - birthday dinner at Higgins (Higgins, Portland OR): The nose is deep, layered, and absolutely sublime as you just get lost in the glass. There is a ton of complexity as the tones of golden Graham, red apples, quince, toast, brioche, toast, custard, ginger, bread, and vanilla extract permeate in the glass. The Medium bodied feel is textured and deep with tart, high acidity. This is amazing. In some ways, it's hard to put into words everything that is going on. This is a monumental Champagne that is utterly memorable.
February 4, 2023 - Best champagne
November 6, 2022 - Clearly oxidative in style - amontillado, orange peel, green apple. Nice depth and complexity. Hold.
November 5, 2022 - Deep oxidised, amontillado sherry, orange eau de vie. Light texture, mousse subdued, depth and complexity. The fruit is bruised or preserved, but the long and harmonious finish takes the cake. Very, very good. 5+ years.
July 25, 2022 - Just gorgeous with tiny bubbles and brioche and noted complexity. Really quite fine.
September 12, 2021 - Rich golden color, showing age. A more wide open nose than my last bottle, with sweet ginger, ripe golden apple, touches of flower and honey. Palate is showing some oxidative elements. Pastry and toasty bread, vanilla bean and savory apply butter. Quiet full bodied, bordering on sweet. Finish is long, with subtle secondary notes of over ripe apples, touches of funk. A unique and full bodied champagne, will be curious to see how this evolves.
January 11, 2021 - Golden color, very fine bubbles, strongly effervescent. Nice blend of lemon peel, orange blossom, toast, some secondary earthy notes, slightly smoky finish. Nicely integrated, very pleasant.
January 2, 2021 - Very strong acidity and granite-like minerality. Lemon biscuit present but cannot overcome the bracing structure. Very fine effervescence. Still backward. I opened this thinking 2006 should be drinking well now, but this seemed too soon. Very classy but not that much pleasure yet compared with other Eglys I have had. I think you should forget this for a few years more.
