December 16, 2017 - Lasagna Dinner at Karen's House with Italian wines (Princeton, NJ): Red fruit, lots of cherries, dried fruits, leather, some herbs and a touch of menthol on the finish (particularly initially). Good on its own but really excellent with the meat lasagna from D'Angelo's: it loved the tomatoes, meat and all the flavors. Perhaps not the very best showing of this wine, but a respectable one. This seemed more advanced than the bottle we had in 2013, so it might be time to drink up. (Or could be bottle variation). To be fair, it was also a little overpowered by the Tormaresca Bocca di Lupo, which we also had that night, and is a much more powerful wine.

I think this was our last bottle (from a case purchased in 2010), although the inventory says there is one more bottle here.

With Karen K at her house in Princeton.

May 28, 2017 - Not quite a classic Serralunga, more dominated by the warm vintage. Warm tones of dried fruit on the nose, combined with warm earth and some tarry tones. Full bodied, with a clear sense of alcohol in the mouth, dried fruits and dry wood, tar and oil. Massive and dry tannins spoil the aftertaste. Changes completely when drunk with aged french, hard cheeses (tomme, morbier, comte, emmenthal). Still, it has kept its age well, given the starting point.

December 6, 2014 - Not terrible. Disapointing for a barolo. Better with food.
