May 5, 2024 - Another excellent bottle of this beauty. Cork was again, saturated but no issue with the wine Decanted at the restaurant/2 hour before tucking into this bad boy. Some bricking o the edge, but it was kind of dark! Huge blossoming spice box nose with a hint of smokiness.
Deep dark cherry flavors with velvet ultra fine chocolaty tannins. Long slow fading finish.

May 3, 2024 - It came kicking and screaming out of the bottle. Very acidic, but you could taste the potential for when it would unfurl. 30 mins in decanter and the nose started to open up with notes of blackberry cassis and coffee. After 45 mins I took the first sip. It had a real smell and taste of pencil shaving, and deep dark fruits in the finish, but it was still a bit light on the palette. But it was showing promise. Good things to come. 90 mins after opening it really began to blossom. Truffle, tobacco and mushroom , and earthy pepper underpinning the dark fruit with red fruits bursting through. Long cigar notes on the finish. Would say the wine was at peak 2.5 hours post decant.

Very, very impressive wine; and glad to have ticked off a bucket list wine, but to my palette it’s on the same level as as something like a 1989 Lynch Bages at 40% of the cost.

    97pts.

April 14, 2024 - Definitely past it's prime. No fruit left some tertiary notes. Nice silky mounhfeel

April 13, 2024 - So much has been written about the flavors of this legendary wine, that there really is not anything else to add to that. Right now it is in a sweet spot and is perfect. Probably can age for several more years but I cannot imagine it improving significantly beyond where it is at right now. Did not decant the bottle, but had the Sommelier open it, and we let it breathe slowly over the course of the evening. It did get better with some air, and was excellent until the very last drop.

March 3, 2024 - Plenty has been written about this wine over the years - nobody needs my thoughts on the aromas and flavours etc. So let this note serve as an update on where this wine is at in March of 2024. There is still primary fruit here and amazing freshness for a 42 year old wine. While I don’t think it will necessarily improve, it is in a perfect window now. Can’t see that changing for a few years. OK to hold for a bit in my view.

February 16, 2024 - Not the best bottle of 1982 I had, but still an amazing wine. Missing some tension unfortunately.

February 10, 2024 - A fresher bottle of 82 Mouton with truffle, dark currant, cassis and leather. On the palate, it was vivid, fresh and layered with multi-faceted complexity. Quite a spherical wine.

January 1, 2024 - This was very enjoyable, but possibly carrying a faint tint. I would probably still give this a 95, but for one of the greatest wines of all time, it seems unfair to rate. Interestingly, it is the only bottle of my half dozen that was bought at auction. A lesson learnt.

December 24, 2023 - Gambale bottle. Outstanding deep ruby color. And outstanding density of mixed berry fruit, no hint of fatigue. At this age it has settled into its secondaries so while it is arguably even more interesting than in its youth it is not as dazzling.
