February 27, 2020 - Decanted for two hours, drunk over a period of another two. Medium to dark ruby colour. Red fruit, rosewater, tar and spices, with good acidity, fairly fine and well-integrated tannin and very good length. Fruity, full-bodied, ripe and modern. Only moderated complexity, but very powerful, and quite delicious and intriguing. My father-in-law and I were unable to stop pouring glass after glass until the bottle was finished...

January 11, 2014 - Very similar to my previous note. Modern and attractive but sturdy wine that is completely intact on the second day even if the tannins are now largely resolved. Relatively little Nebbiolo or Barolo typicity however.

March 16, 2013 - Like nine months ago there is a basis of cedar and dusty gravel on the nose, but this time there is also a lovely complexity of amarena cherries, flowers, leather and a slight nuttiness; mid-palate there is a lovely roundness and sweetness that is balanced well by the rich but finely-grained tannins, has flavours of gingerbread and candied orange; very good length. Fully mature but probably with five more years in hand.

June 16, 2012 - Very different from last year. Showing well but not very typical. Cedary and slightly dusty nose - I could have sworn it was an old-fashioned Saint-Julien; on the palate medium-weight, well-balanced, fully mature but lively, velvety tannins; good length.

July 10, 2011 - Seems fully mature immediately after opening - past best even? Decanting improves the wine, the earth and nuts are replaced by fresher notes of fruit, flowers and tar; good tannic grip and length. Hard to predict.

May 15, 2011 - In November 2008 ethereal, with roses, tar and vanilla. Now more earthy, a bit nutty too, seems to be developing quickly, velvety and supple, tannins softened but present. May not fulfill its promise.

October 22, 2010 - The color is still bright. Modern and complex nose, looks in good shape. Wondering if it was going to be too creamy and boring in the mouth, as it happened recently with a Barbaresco 1997 Gallina from La Spinetta. Not really; while modern, it also has a very pleasant freshness to keep everything in balance. To me, quite in the line of Voerzio style, at a fraction of the cost. Paired well with salsiccia di Bra and agnolotti del plin stuffed with brasato al Barolo. Bought on release, kept in my cellar since then. It can be drunk now or during the next ten years (at least)

December 1, 2009 - Very fine and classic bouquet and flavours but too young .

May 6, 2009 - Very nice Barolo. Low score was due in part to my lack of patience. I should have either decanted or waited longer to drink. Bottle was consumed over and hour and a half. Towards the end, there was more complexity and a better finish. By no means should you drink up, but the wine is drinking well now. I would open at least 1 hour prior to drinking.

November 24, 2008 - Showing very well. Roses and tar, hint of vanilla; tannic, ripe acidity, nice weight, good length. A star with risotto ai funghi.
