Community Tasting Notes 5

March 25, 2013 - Kingston Dinner 3/25/13 (Fairfield, CT): Decanted for over 4 hours. You can taste the obvious age. A lot of leather going on the nose. Some earth. A strong wine and seems like it has some additional years ahead of it. A friend drank it last year and said it was almost unapproachable. With a 2+ hour decant, this wine is fine to drink.

February 19, 2011 - fruit still bright, fantastic cherry, earthy, leather flavors.

March 11, 2010 - I don't get this wine. It's hard to believe that this wine is 21 years old, it's missing every old nebbiolo characteristic. "Decanted" at the cellar in 2007, I'm hard pressed to believe that this is 100% 89 juice. Fine but no better/different than the 99 tased along side of it. Decanted for 3+ hours

May 2, 2009 - Having had a good experience with first bottle of this that I tried before, I was very pleasantly suprised with how well the bottle tasted. After about half an hour of breathing, this wine was aromatic, full bodied and with plenty of tannin actually to last for many years. This is classic barolo and it went beautifully with the lamb chops we had for dinner.

May 1, 2000 - NobleRottersSydney - Italian night (Darling Mills, Glebe): Rusty water/orange towards the rim. Pungent nose, almost porty in character. The well-developed palate has an oxidised, rancio-like character to it. Fruit has mostly faded, there’s just a dried out palate of searing astringency which fails to conceal the underlying anorexia. Disappointing.
