December 31, 2023 - Method: decanted for an hour and then back in the bottle for another 2 hours; Glasvin universal; slightly chilled

    Look: deep- garnet; no bricking

Nose: cedar / cigar box / oak, maybe slight allspice

Palate: cherry, dried herbs; long finish of pepper, oak, light dried herbs, nutmeg, faint unripe green olive; dry; medium+ body; high drying tannin; high- acidity

Overall thoughts: There is some good complexity here and a lot of structure, but this is WAY too young. The oak and tannins need to integrate a lot more for my tastes. Very good wine overall, but seemingly very far from its prime.

June 1, 2022 - The wine is clear, with deep ruby color, slight more garnet towards the rims, and thick legs.
On the nose the wine is clean, with medium plus primary aroma intensity of ripe black fruits, black berries, black currant, wild cherries, earthiness notes, black pepper, smoked meat, dried herbs, along with medium secondary aroma intensity of oak spices, dirt, wet floor, earthiness notes.
On the palate the wine is dry, with medium plus acidity, medium ripe green tannins, medium plus body, medium plus alcohol, medium plus flavor intensity of ripe black fruits, black forest berries, strawberries, cassis, plum jam, black pepper, meat, oak spices, fresh and dried herbs.
The wine is of an outstanding quality, due to its length, complex aroma and flavor profile, balanced charecteristics between concentrated fruit and earthiness notes, while keeping sharp acidity across all palate, and pleasant mineral finish. It is appealing and generous at time of tasting, with generous weight, and was showing green notes along with pronounced tannins, thus can definitely benefit from further aging, in order to soften down the tannins, bring to the front more of riper fruits characteristic, and to start developing tertiary aromas and flavors profile.

June 1, 2022 - Tasting Ground official tasting, 2006 Guigal lalala (Oinoscent): 100% Syrah, 11200 bottles total production, limestone clay rich in iron oxide, 2.3ha No decanting as suggested by Philippe Guigal, bottle uncorked at 10:00, tasted at 14:00

The wine shows high intensity in the nose, very dense profile, dark fruit, dark spice, overall a very dark core (!!!), more graphite, a touch coffee, with more time in the glass you get some toffee next to prunes and plums.

In the palate, the wine is still tight, the oak is very much upfront, spice, coffee, tannins are tight, the fruit needs some time to emerge showing fresh juicy cherries and currants, full body and long finish

This is the most backward of all, still needs time

February 25, 2021 - Very interesting wine. The theme of the night was non-Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne French wines. So, Rhone was a major player of the night. Very interesting wine but didn't unfurl itself on the night. It is very tightly wrapped and probably needs a long decant time. The terroir elements are still in the background. I can see the score going to 94 or so with a few years of cellaring. But definitely not a top La-La.

February 23, 2021 - I said that if this was northern Rhone I'd kill myself - shows what I know. But to be fair I don't drink at this price point often, this was thanks to a very generous friend. The heavy oak use that made everyone think it was a Bordeaux blend of some sort, possibly from the south. On the nose and palate, the fruit was rather muted compared to a glorious 1999 that I tried a couple of years ago. Still painfully young, but I am not sure how long it'd take for the oak to integrate as the fruit doesn't seem to be sufficient to support the massive structure.

August 22, 2020 - This is a good wine but not sure whether it's worth the cost of admission. Polished nose of black fruits, coffee, new leather and some oak. Follows thru the palate on a similar profile. Good but feels a tad manufactured - this showcases winemaking whereas the Rostaing Landonne 06 tasted alongside speaks of terrior with its minerality and CR perfume.

June 13, 2020 - Fine Wines SG - "Who makes the best Syrah wine?" (Zoom): Medium ruby, slight fading garnet edges. Aromas of pepper and cool mint, and roast meat, as well as dark florals. Tannic, peppery, savoury, of some medium ripe blackberry, mint, and a very strong sense of charcuterie, and purple flowers. The spices carry on the the back and finish, and there is a somewhat savoury soybean like feel, and bits of tar
