    September 24, 2018 - 6th of 6 and CORKED as previous bottle...….undrinkable.....grrrrh!

March 18, 2018 - 5th of 6, cork taint, rich and nuanced underneath, still very dark and dense with some purple on rim, last bottle in 13 F (91) approachable with pleasure if not fully mature.

May 21, 2017 - 13% alcohol. Strikingly elegant minimalist label on a heavy opaque bottle. Decanted for an hour. Good dense cork, which looks quite narrow but certainly did a good job, as there is no wine penetration whatever. Inky dark (not for nothing was Cahors known as "le vin noir") with little sign of evolution.

It takes some effort to coax out the aromas, but it is worth it, with blackberry raisiny notes emerging eventually. The mouth is more immediately striking, with amazing vivacity (after all, the bottle is almost 20 years old), very little perceived oak, good fruit, and even a fair amount of residual tannins (of the type that you feel in your gums, but do not carry bitter flavours); this must have been fierce in its first 15 years! Excellent grip.

This is a deluxe version of what is basically a rustic wine at heart, but in a good way (too many over-smooth specimen around, liquid or otherwise). It is a notch above any other Malbec wine that I ever had (from France or Argentina).
I need this kind of hearty flavour (from Cahors, Argentina or Madiran) from time to time, so this is a repeat purchase provided that I can source relatively mature bottles, as I am afraid that this type of wine will outlive me by a considerable number of years.

January 28, 2015 - Bit oxed. Last bottle from same lot was stupendous.

December 14, 2014 - Heat damaged, the most obvious case of such ever.
