April 20, 2016 - The ‘80’s really were the halcyon years for white Burgundy and a bottle of 1988 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre is the perfect case in point. A village wine that is coming up to its 30th birthday that is absolutely rocking. The nose is fresh and fruity with all sorts of tropical fruits, some almond butter and a little mushroom. It is clean and pristine in the mouth. Flavours are all bright and direct and you get a kiss of lemon like acidity to the finish. It gains dimension in the glass.

May 11, 2015 - Opened for one hour and drank over two more. Opulent, powerful nose with lemon and citrus aromas, kept evolving in glass. More interesting in palate: tasty, grassy, citrus, medium bodied with a high, refreshing acidity that asks you to taste it again to savour that long finish. An excellent example from a fresh vintage that still drinks beautiful now and probably for a few more years. 92-93

Vineyard recovered in 1986, hence 3rd vintage for Lafon. Lot located in the low section of the vineyard that translates into a more opulent but fresher wine than its neighbors.

September 17, 2014 - Gobs of acid soft round fleshy fruit. Just a pretty wine. Taste youthful like a late 90s early 00s wine. Why provenance is so crucial.
