September 25, 2015 - Deep nose of beef, baking spices and herbs. Really nice mint note. The palate is medium weight with good acidity. There are tart cherries and slightly underripe blueberries to be enjoyedm. Great wine. Medium to light tannins at this point.

May 8, 2015 - This is amazing. Smooth, silky, and a ridiculously long finishing. Blue fruits like blueberries and some cream. Subtle mocha flavors. I need go find another bottle. I cannot imagine how this could get better.

May 15, 2014 - Man I like the nose on the Sigaros. Ripe red and dark berries, cinnamon and tobacco up front. The palate is creamy, soft and delicious with more ripe berries and some savory elements. Just a hint of BBQ. Liked it better before food.
November 18, 2011 - first note got erased. damn. this wine is definitely worth writing about a second time.
my wife and i bow down to the collaborative creations from larry fairchild and paul hobbs. i've not been shy in saying that the '08 sigaro ('08 GIII not far behind) is the best bottle of wine i've enjoyed all year, if not the past several. i have a bottle of '08 sigaro lined up for thanksgiving (steak that night NOT turkey), so we wanted to get a better sense of the vineyard and have a recent comparison.
decanted 1.5 hours. this intoxicating bouquet can be easily detected from five feet away. in the glass, dark cherry, cassis, spice box, cedar, a slight suggestion of dark chocolate, and the signature sigaro minerals round out this gorgeous nose. a floral element emerges after about 2 hours. authoritative, structured mouthfeel. while many coveted napa cabs are loved for their lushness and voluptuousness, this is to be respected and admired for its regal stature. this could easily pass for a fine bordeaux. full body. excellent balance. the minerality really amps up on the dark fruit finish - one that goes on and on well over a minute. '08 tasting note to come next week.
this is yet another data point that says to me that these wines are utterly fantastic and i'm a proud customer of fairchild wines.

October 6, 2008 - This wine came to me via a blind tasting with several 2005 Bdx's. This wine was the outlyer.............the interesting thing is 4 of 6 people thought this wine was a Bdx and felt it was a St Emillon in the style of Gerard Perse. I thought this was a Cali cab at the tasting but it did remind me of 2005 Valandraud in style. The wine history is something to know. After the blind tasting I found out much about this wine because I knew nothing about it. 2005 was the first vintage for this wine. Lawrence Fairchild is an outsider of Napa and bought his land adjacent to Colgin Cellars and Pritchard Hill and Bryant Family in St Helena. The owner hired vineyard guru James Barbour and vintner Paul Hobbs to make the wine this yr. There was only 90 cases of this wine made for 2005. The wine is made in classic Bdx style for sure.
Upon opening the wine the first aroma one percieves is the cassis, black cherry, and floral bouquet. The wine is perfectly balanced with fruit and acidity and is well constructed. It is fruit foward but the tannins are balanced and not overpowering. It will cellar for 20 yrs easy. The mid palate revealed mocha raspberrry and wet clay with some cigar and lead pencil and crushed gravel.............the wine lasts over 50 secs...........it is amazing. If you want a great bottle of Bdx styled cali cab this one is to good to be true.............it offers a serious value for those who like Valandraud especially the 2005 version, or any 2005 Bdx considering their pricing structure, which is over 350 dollars for a 750ml specimen. This wine can be had for 125 dollars but it is very rare. I would make a strong rec for putting this bottle down for 10-15 yrs. Superaltive first vintage. A vineyard to monitor for sure.
