March 31, 2023 - Quite delightful; subtle, mature, ripe, red-fruited; whiff of fresh strawberry punnet and pomegranate on the nose, with an overlay of morello richness and lurking decay. On the palate it is resolved, laid back; quietly classy, nuanced, gentle, low key, light touch, old school. It is not especially complex but you do not always want the distraction of a magical mystery tour. This and the 2004 are in the sweet spot.

November 25, 2022 - 8/12, vg cork. Decanted 1/2 hr.
Medium/deep garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose shows plummy and dark cherry fruit, soil, touch of tobacco. Quietly aromatic. Medium bodied, plum, dark cherry, not overly deep but elegant, fine-boned, resolved tannins, fresh acids, slightly grainy only medium length finish. Interesting but not out of the top draw. Now to 2030ish -

June 15, 2022 - Time in the cellar has been extremely kind to this wine. None of the green, spiky traits I thought would make this controversial or any sort of acquired taste that I had down in my original note from 7 years ago are still a factor here. Instead, the fruit is round and while not emphatically ripe it's not outside the parameters for ripeness in a wine entering its tertiary stage with two decades in the bottle. (It shares some characteristics with the 2000 Marquis d'Aligre I had last week, with which it would've made an interesting companion.) It's aromatically dazzling from the first drips into the decanter, the effect of bottle age (in addition to having rounded some of those sharp edges and absorbing the green elements into the fruit) having added an extra layer of savoriness as if you'd somehow taken the wine and given it a nice quick blackened crust on a charcoal grill. But I actually do miss some of that peppery bite.

January 29, 2022 - A really pleasant mature drinking claret. Still had enough fruit but the tannins has softened to give a silky finish. Was tasted next to a VCC 2000, which though the more eminent wine is still miles from being properly ready
