After an exceptionally warm month of April, the weather deteriorated starting in May. July was cool and wet, followed by a dry spell in early August, then showers at the end of that month. Fine weather returned in September, with three weeks of ideal conditions: hot days and cool nights. The weather was more variable by the end of the month, with a few showers, although none were heavy or long-lasting.

Maceration varied from 15-26 days. The blend contained 6% of press wine, and 1.5% of the wine was bled off from fermentation vats. Ageing took place in 100% new oak. Traditional fining with egg white was done in order to settle particles in suspension in barrel. Two egg whites were used per barrel. These were later eliminated by filtration.

Komplex, Gewürze und Blumen; kompakt im Ansatz, dicht und frisch, elegant, mit feinkörnigem Tannin, gleichzeitig geschmeidig und doch fest. Durch und durch liebenswürdig.

Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, jugendliche Reflexe, violetter Rand. In der Nase zunächst recht verhalten, feines Weichsel-Kirsch-Bukett, zart nach Nougat, exotische Gewürze klingen an. Am Gaumen kraftvoll, extraktsüß, intensive Gewürzanklänge auch in der Textur, recht präsentes Tanninkleid, das noch etwas fordernd wirkt, hat eine gute Länge, feine karamellige Süße, gutes Potenzial.

Deep colour. Nose strong on black fruit complexified by minty and grilled aromas. The full bodied palate is enjoyably fresh, and balanced by elegant and refined tannins on the finish. An outstanding vintage.

(2008) 55% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot, which is typical. Real blue-black fruit intensity with some dustiness again, and stylish mineral and gravel notes. On the palate this has lovely flesh and silkiness, but it is a fairly tight, juicy wine with real energy and finesse. A beautiful wine.
