October 27, 2021 - Nose is beautifully floral, clean, perfumed, and also has some rusticity. Some of the classic Hermitage smoke and gamey character, but not overwhelmingly earth driven. Surprisingly youthful and clean, robust red fruit still. Absolute silky edges while delivering concentrated plummy fruit at the core. A real ‘iron fist velvet glove’ type showing. A little more rusticity and comparative sous bois to the ‘90 Verset afterwards, but overall clean. This bottle came off a list after some proper authentication to ensure it was not an ex-domaine ‘late release’ which are reportedly not the same wine. Brilliant. In a great place for drinking right now, and don’t feel there is any rush to open good bottles of this based on this showing. 94 - 95.

November 1, 2019 - Served blind. Whilst a mature nose, this was still incredibly dark, and I guessed 80s, so I was blown away when this was unveiled as a 69. I learned later this was a late release from the château, with a hologram seal, hence the wonderful condition. Just a classic syrah. Meat, blood, iron. All wrapped in perfect balance and harmony. Still with lots of life, freshness and structure. At 50 years, this is absolutley singing, and a joy to drink, but has another 10 years at least if a well stored château release. Drank with SW.

April 8, 2017 - Not nearly as good as my last experience. A slightly stewey character to the fruit on this bottle, although not attributable to an obvious flaw. More mature than other bottles I have encountered. Dark damp earth lends a hand, as does an underlying faint spice bouquet. Original release bottle. 92-?

April 8, 2017 - Wine Tasted at Acker Auction (Le Bernardin Prive - New York NY): Small glass, brief note. Black fruit is obviously mature, but still fresh for its age and very concentrated. As much leather and cooked mushroom as fruit, with very good supporting structure. Very good+.

January 12, 2016 - Ripe dark fruit balanced by earth and dark savories. Light smoky notes provide depth. Smooth on the palate. Seemingly younger than its age. Hints of herbal tones on the palate. A solid showing for this wine. Consumed with cheese.
