December 19, 2016 - Sourced from the Gallina and Santo Stefano vineyards, the ‘61 Barbaresco was unexpectedly youthful and exuberant, showing a touch of volatility that contributed to its raciness. On the nose, I was greeted to a vibrant display of sweet florals and spices, gaining richness with time in the glass, adding dried orange, cedar and hints of dusty vanilla. On the palate, I found silky textures combined with racy acidity, showing dried cherry, mint and inner floral tones. The finish was long yet juicy, as saturating spice and red berry tones lingered long. Frankly, you’d never guess this wine’s age.

December 12, 2016 - One sip of this wine and you are given an insight into why 1961 was one of Piedmonts greatest vintages. The fruit was amazingly vibrant and the finish was long and elegant.

July 27, 2014 - This bottle had a good fill, lower neck level. The cork was fragile, but pulled out in one piece. There was no sediment in the bottle. The ancient wine was pink. The wine itself was completely gone. It smelled like lacquer thinner and tasted bitter, awful. Absolutely undrinkable. I tried it again two hours later and it was worse, if that is even possible.

October 27, 2013 - Rare Wine Co's Giacosa Riserva Dinner (Del Posto Restaurant, NYC): [Brought by another attendee who gave a taste to Ed, who let me finish it. I love these guys!!!] One of the most ethereal wines I have ever put in my mouth. Tasted in this context, I can fully appreciate how great this perfect old wine is. The finish lasts for minutes. As great as any old wine can be. I am blown away.
