    December 6, 2014 - Black cherries, cocoa powder, smoke, plum, wet earth, a hint of cola, and some forest vegetation on the nose. Black cherries, plums, black raspberries, vanilla, and earth on the palate. Decent acidity, integrated tannins, longish vanilla finish. Flirts a bit with heat. Nice bottle. I really enjoyed this over Thanksgiving dinner.

    January 16, 2014 - PnP (quite open aromatically on popping so no decant, whiff of VA vanished quickly). Similar to bottle from about a year ago in terms of structure (i.e., well balanced), but this bottle seems to be showing more secondary flavors, even hints at tertiary. Well timed as my last bottle and makes me look forward to the new 2011s I just ordered; planning another 8 yr run.

    November 12, 2013 - Nice nose of strawberry, black cherry, damp earth, smoke, plum, a little forest vegetation, brown sugar, and a hint of cedar at times. Sweet plum, black cherry, spice, earth, black raspberry, and a little cranberry. Shows a little alcohol as it warms up. Fair acidity, initial impression of sweetness, decent finish, slight bitterness at the end, integrated tannins. Overall, I liked this but with some reservations. It needs to be served fairly cold due to slight heat, the palate seemed a bit candied at first and a bit bitter at the end, and lack of acidity might make it seem a bit flabby to some people. That said, it paired nicely with big flavored food. Probably wouldn't buy again, but I'm happy to have another bottle.

    (Rhys Alesia Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast) (Tasted 1 year before release.) Light medium cherry red color with pale meniscus; big, focused, tart strawberry nose with a touch of caramel oak; tart strawberry and red fruit palate, showing some sweetness and also some iron toward the medium finish 91+ pts.
