November 19, 2016 - Afraid this got past its prime. Slight prune with little very little fruit finish. If you have it in cellar, drink up as it will not get better

    March 16, 2016 - Okay. Reasonable value.

June 27, 2014 - Dark purple on the pour; nose of dark red and black fruits, pepper, spice, leather, cassis and violets; palate of vibrant dark fruits, pepper, toasted leather; very juicy and very smooth; tannins are becoming nicely integrated and but show plenty of life; nice acid and semi-long finish.

While this wasn't terribly complex, the wine was nicely made and pleasure to drink over several days while not losing its character or typical Howell Mountain profile.

January 31, 2011 - Trip to Napa Valley; 1/30/2011-1/31/2011 (Napa, CA): On the nose, oak, blackberries, and heat. On the palate, red berries, oaky, high acidity, very hot. Very unbalanced and disjointed.

January 28, 2011 - Popped and poured. First glass had a consummate mountain fruit profile -- peppery nose and front palate. The tannins have laid down over the past year, making it much more approachable now. After about 10 minutes in the glass, the red fruit really shines through. A little light on the finish -- this is typical of a lot of 2005 Napa cabs I've tasted. The vintage doesn't seem like it would stand up as long as some others (such as the 2003), but it's a thoroughly enjoyable bottle now and probably for the next couple of years.
