June 12, 2016 - Opaque purple turning violet at the rim with a thick transparent band at the edge. The nose shows ripe red and black fruits with hints of smoked figs, plum, and mocha. This has a ripe, jammy palate that's full-bodied; densely-structured; heightened; and velvety and round in texture. Flavors of blackberry, smoke, cassis, and dried herbs form the palate. This is complete and a meal in itself. Finishes long and juicy with hints of scorched cedar. Perhaps a fruit bomb, but give it a chance. Drink now until 2026.

May 29, 2016 - Deep color. Intense nose of cherries, currants and herbs. Full body, with intense flavors and integrated tannins. Long finish. Delicious now.

April 8, 2016 - Opened about 5 hours early for a slow ox. Deep, opaque purple color with some red on the edges. Huge nose of blackberries, blue fruit, pencil, integrated oak. Elegant, plush mouthfeel, integrated oak, the higher alcohol isn't showing. Tannins are balanced at this point, but still very present. Like a previous review stated, I picked up some more sour fruit flavors as it got more air, so I did not decant. It was stunning on day 1, but not as impressive on day 2. Paired with pan seared NY strip which was wonderful.

February 19, 2016 - Despite "the more of everything philosophy" Jayson Pahlmeyer is told to have expressed several times, this is an elegant yet extremely powerful wine. The first impression is one of mulitple layers and ample dark fruit, elegant led pencil, cacao and butterscotch accompanied by lovely orange zest and very expressive violets. The latter is just exploding from the glass after some time. The palate is incredibly balanced and integrated with pleasant acidity and velvety tannins. More of everything apparently leads to balance, power and yes certainly also "elegance". This wine has a long time to go in the cellar, but I truly enjoyed it tonight too. A lovely effort!

January 23, 2016 - Sometimes I've found Pahlmeyer cab, (whose proprietary red and especially the Merlot I've loved over the years) seems to drink better young. Not the 2006. This is a big Napa cab, with elegance, structure, length, and evolution now showing as it moves into its second decade. Dark tooth staining purple, but some secondary notes, and more than enough there to go another 12-15 years and get better and better. I see more generous scores elsewhere, but to me a 92 is damn good. Got to leave room for the truly spectacular wines out there.
