August 9, 2017 - Aerate through filter to decanter, let sit for 30 minutes. Color is deeply pitched dark red, full body. Well this is just awesome sauce right out of the gate, with a very deep knockout nose of blackberry preserves, ripe cassis, graphite, high grade chocolate, camphor, potting soil and sweet spices. On the palate very deep black fruits, perfumed violets, tar, rich black soil, and spices, all gliding across the entire palate in a smooth and polished presentation. Medium-plus acid, loads of sweet velvety tannins and a one minute harmonious finish of dark fruits, earth, and vanilla complete the impression of a premium Napa blend built solidly and elegantly for long term enjoyment. Bordering on extraordinary, this is not to be denied. Drank next to an '08 Sassacaia and an '07 Anderson Conn Valley Estate Cab, both of which were worlds different.

June 30, 2017 - Last of the three wines to celebrate passing with distinction on the WSET 2 and what a guess it was.

Deep garnet red with a touch lighter on the edges. Dark red berries throughout on the nose with vanilla and a touch of cinnamon. Mixed through all of this was a distinct note of acetone. Fuller attack than finish with medium to heavy tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Notes of spices, dark red berries, raisins, plums and some sweet spices. Long and lingering finish. Still seems to need a little bit of time to integrate. Was given two hours in the decant but could easier use longer. Drink till 2026. (91+)

First opinion was that this was a Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red that was from between 2003 and 2006. But seemed to have a touch more umph than a 2003 or 2004. I know the 2005 was supposed to be an amazing vintage and this reminded us of the 2008 but a touch older. So final guess was the 2006 Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red.

June 30, 2017 - Decanted for 2 hours but this needs another 2 at least.

Vanilla and acetone on the nose. This has potential we will see if it develops or not. Maybe another 2 or so points with time later in the evening.

Light acidity comes through in the finish. Mid to late palate loses the fruitiness and gets mild acidity and dryness.

December 25, 2016 - Gorgeous Bottle right out of the gate. Drank alongside a juicy porterhouse at Morton's and it did not disappoint. Think the last bottle was an 'off bottle' - as this one showed no green or bitter notes whatsoever!! (even in glass for a few hours)

Was a nice deep purple hue, mostly dark blue and black fruit with just a hint of some red currant. It definitely fit the typical Palhmeyer Red profile - w/ chocolate, espresso and a hint of sweetness from that oaky vanilla.

The entry was nice - mild but notable, a medium savory mid palate and the finish was medium length, nothing to get excited about, but definitely more than satisfying and perfect compliment to the meal.

Over the last few years and bottles I have tried, have not seen much improvement, so think this is as good as it gets, which is not a bad thing and don't see any need to rush to drink. No signs of age, so think these easily have 5-10 years of solid drinking.

I do still think this bottle shows best without a decant. Cheers!
