January 6, 2024 - Wine Bros: A Study of Syrah (Cowford Chophouse): I’ve always really loved the Colgin Syrahs and still think that we probably haven’t seen the best of them. Will be something even better when they get to more age. These are drinking nicely though. We had opened and decanted for sediment and done a quick run through the Lennar machine and I think all of that was necessary for this wine. As it was it opened quite a bit in the glass and I saved some for the very end. Dark berries and just a hit of the iron ore. Even better according to the folks who drank more after the dinner (so more like hour 6 or 7 after bottle originally opened).

January 20, 2019 - Pnp. Rich and alluring on the nose with sweet currant, vanilla, and oak. For a napa syrah, the palate was very balanced with no hint of being overwhelmed. Yes the wine was made in a modern and extracted style, but it was done properly in a good way. It hang well with the higher calibre penfolds grange, hill of grace and sine quan non tonight. 92+

December 6, 2017 - Fantastic nose, dry on the palate!
More rare and expensive in comparaison with what is in the bottle
Like better french syrah like Mouline, Landonne or Turque

April 17, 2017 - Again decanted three hours. Flavors continued to develop in the glass, final pour being most pleasant. Stand by prior comment vs. J.L. Chave.

August 13, 2016 - SO'd for a couple of hrs then decanted for another then put back in the bottle, dark crimson, initially bacon when opened but became ripe blueberry with a touch of pepper, mod. tannins, long finish; absolutely delicious & ready to drink, but no rush. Need to find more!

June 23, 2016 - Drank at Aquavit last night with duck. I don't always love Cali Syrah, however this was a very pleasing bottle of wine. Slow-oxed and then decanted 30m. Color: deep purple. Nose: pretty, floral, candy. Mouth: soft, intense blue and black fruit. In all this had good balance and enough acidity to not be flat like some new world Syrah that I don't love. Drinking window is longer than reported. I would guess this has 5-10 years more.

July 27, 2015 - Big, juicy, fat, rich and concentrated with layers of sweet, ripe fruits. Lush and long, the wine has at least another 10 years of pleasure to go. Popped and poured was the way to go.

April 27, 2015 - Drinking window is way off in CT - this is lasting much longer than 2016. It's still pretty tightly wound and takes awhile to open up. We decanted for prob 2 hours and could have used quite a bit more time. Saved some to see how it drinks on day 2. As mentioned in I think all of the previous notes, very dense black fruit. With some time there's a bit of an earthy characteristic that pokes through. Not quite as multi-dimensional as the '05 we had a few months ago, but I think it's because this one is in a tighter phase. Will hold our other bottle for a few more years.
