November 5, 2016 - Brookie and I and our friends Jackie and Antonio drank this bottle with hamburgers (Brookie and I had vege burgers,) a cheese plate, and Cheetos. Decanted for maybe 30 minutes before drinking. The wine continued to open.

The wine is in it's prime drinking window and probably has a few more years before it begins to decline. Classic cabernet notes, well balanced, rounded, delicious without being overly extracted. I detected root beer on the nose, dark fruit and kirsch mid palate, Antonio kept mentioning pepper, which nobody else got . . . currents.

This is a delicious wine. The 91 point score is the average between the 90 points Antonio gave it and the 92 points I gave it. In my early wine drinking days I was mostly a Napa cab guy, and I drank a lot of '04's. This is a nice bottle of wine . . . I think I paid $75 for it many years ago. I'm not sure the quality justifies the price of the current release, which is $100.

I will say that this bottle has a silky, pleasing finish, which could be longer, but overall it is well done. This is a nice bottle, probably not worth the price tag, compared to other Napa cabs. In my opinion, the following wines are better for the same or less money: Peter Franus, Larkmead, Freemark Abbey Bosche, (Arnot Roberts in Sonoma), Anderson Cohn Valley.

Having had numerous bottles from numerous vintages, my opinion of Darioush wines in general is that they have a certain amount of "Napa elegance" and balance early on, and generally hit their peak in 4-5 years, but do not benefit from aging much beyond that. The fruit is generally pure and there are no edges, and everything is in balance. Nice bottle from a classic Napa vintage.

June 1, 2016 - Still lush and primary with dark fruits and tobacco with the slightest whiff of menthol in the background. Very fruity and brooding without being too strident on day one. Day two brings a reductive nose and some overall mellowing of the palate. This wine really seems to be only at the outset of a nice drinking window. It has a very supple mouthfeel, soft tannins and enough acid to carry the day, but the tertiary flavors are just beginning to peak out. Drink if you like lush and rich, hold for more development.

May 26, 2016 - This wine is in a perfect drinking window - lovely balance of fruit acidity and tannins. Sorry only one left. Would not wait much longer
