January 9, 2017 - For a '94 I found this wine too light, too developed, but forgetting the excellent vintage it was a nice and elegant port.

October 21, 2016 - Initially the profile of the wine is not dissimilar to the bottle tasted in August 2015, but the raw and stalky are less in evidence. On the second day they have all but disappeared and what we are left with is a mature but lively vintage port, fresh and energetic, medium sweet and medium bodied, with gentle tannins, transparent ripe fruit, white chocolate, cedar and eucalyptus, good length. Attractive, good rather than great.

April 30, 2016 - Cloudy with a cheesy nose. Just about drinkable.

August 16, 2015 - Initially the nose is quite nasty: raw and stalky, with notes of cherry pips and a hint of cocoa powder. After a day in the decanter this has cleared up, but the nose remains reticent at best. The palate is much better, sweet and lively, with good flavours of cherries steeped in alcohol and milk chocolate, fresh acidity and supporting tannins and a mineral undertow. The finish is a bit hot and even though the length is good, there clearly is an unevenness. A decent VP, drinking well but clearly not built for the ages. The four bottles I have tried so far from my case do give the impression that (i) there is quite a bit of bottle variation and (ii) this wine will not deliver on the promises of its youth. Wine Spectator's score of 95 (30 April 1997) now seems exaggerated to the point of ridicule.

January 3, 2015 - Very smooth and balanced. Pleasant and well integrated.
