May 28, 2019 - Out of a magnum. Much juicier than the previous 750's. Showing no age, lots of dark fruits, earth, and dried herbs. Full bodied, the fruit is still prevalent. + tannins, finish is long and has a woody/earthy thing going on. Tannins are drying, fruit acid is med/-. I think this is is in a pretty good spot right now. Beautiful black cherry, black fruit up front, fading through some savory herbs and with a nice earthy finish.

October 19, 2018 - Still pretty tight- could use a few more years to shake off the excess tannin, I liked it better on day three than the previous nights. Day one was pretty rough, tannins out front- lots of dry earth, black cherry, with a gripping finish- power. On day three, the wine softened, showed more fruit, the tannin got in line and went to the finish. A great steak wine. Full bodied, dark fruits, nice progression in the mouth, still feels youthful. I love these old Marinus' to me, they just don't make them like they used to.

March 13, 2014 - This wines tastes like a $60 Napa Cab. On the nose it has plenty of spices and boardwalk style taffy. In the mouth it's loaded with oak, I mean, A LOT of oak. Decent ripe plum and raspberries but the oak is dominant. Finishes a but short.

I am glad I only paid $25 for this wine. I dislike the $60 Napa cabs so I would look for them in the $20 range. This is about right at $25. For $60 I want more complexity and balance from my wines.

December 23, 2013 - Weekly tasting group #100; (very) mature wines (@ DJ): In the bouquet ripe dark fruits, chocolate, cherries and eucalyptus. On the palate eucalyptus and menthol. Concentrated wine with a good length and noticeable alcohol. Completely ready now or on its way down. Drink up.

February 12, 2013 - The first punch on the nose comes from this wine, but after you are recuperated the wine has lost a bit of his glance; still a very nice wine, ripe, masculin, missing however an extra dimension to be extraordinary.

July 28, 2011 - Good. This bottle probably should have been consumed a year or so ago, as it faded quickly. It was still bright on the nose with a great front-end but didn't last long and had a muted finish.

April 12, 2009 - Although the Marinus is a blend of the bordeaux varieties, the nose shows the high acidity of the syrah. After some aeration the bordeaux style comes through.
The next day, although still somewhat high toned, the wine shows a Californian impression of bordeaux. A very nice wine, round, ripe with a polished
aftertaste. Maybe a little wild, but who cares. Enjoy this wine the next 3-5 years.
