April 25, 2024 - bricking red, ruby, in color. dark cherry, raspberry, cassis, cinnamon, pepper, anise, clove. youthful, cherry, cassis, vanilla, on a lasting finish.
consume: now to 2034
January 16, 2012 - deep and rich. mellow, dark plum fruit. good balance of structure and acid. a nice, "typical" Ridge.
March 23, 2011 - Closed, tannic and fuzzy when opened. Even after an hour in a decanter the fruit isn't much in evidence.
The next day it's smooth and round with moderate strawberry jam fruit. At this point it's a reasonable but not special Ridge. Should have had this back in 09 like PD said on the label.
September 26, 2010 - Very good -typical Ridge, big Zin, but very smooth and definately ready to drink
March 3, 2010 - A little flat, not showing much fruit. Nothing really wrong, but nothing much to get excited about either.
September 4, 2009 - Bright red color in the glass. Grapey nose of zinberry fruit and spice. On the palate, this is grapey, with spice and zinberry notes. The finishing tannins are not fully integrated and this is still a bruiser of a wine. Good now as a hedonistic experience, but will likely last and develop in the cellar for another 15 years. Surprising, given the label notes.
April 8, 2009 - drank pretty well with the pepperoni pizza. Not so well by itself. Seemed to stand up well to the spiciness of the pizza.
June 29, 2007 - Upon opening the fruit was very fresh and delightful. With a little time in the glass the wine got tighter and more structured. Will try it again tonight to see if more air time has loosened it up a bit.
February 25, 2007 - The fruit is a bit overripe and cloying, but otherwise this wine is nicely balanced and quite enjoyable. Almost no hard edges, very smooth. Time to drink up, unless you like your Zins very old.
January 18, 2006 - Good solid Ridge style zin. Paired wonderfully with lasagne.
