December 1, 2023 - Still very fruity. Tannins have mellowed significantly and there is quite a lot of acidity, but it’s just so big and so fruity as to seem sweet. Just a bit in your face too much. Perhaps more age will help but this wine overall felt too heavy for me. Full disclaimer I generally prefer old world style wines, but I don’t dislike all new world style wines… this just felt extreme. Maybe others will enjoy based on preference but not for me.

October 21, 2023 - Quite enjoyable, definitely new world with lots of oak to go with the fruit. Decent acidity to pair with food. From a mag, so still quite primary.

  • Acohen Likes this wine: 91 points

April 12, 2021 - Lots of blue fruit, violets and licorice notes

February 12, 2021 - Nose of potpourri, violets and peppered pork broth
Fine-tannined mouth (initially some heat but after two hours settled down nicely) of figs, olives and matchstick wood. Shortish finish of plum skins and light roast coffee. No hurry to drink this one. Excellent with roast lamb (Australian lamb with wine by an Australian winemaker).

October 24, 2020 - Time to drink up. Spicy molasses on the nose. Decent Syrah notes of tea leaf, pepper, leather and Dr. Pepper and a minor tannin component that dries a bit on the finish. Decent but drying length.

(Sequel) Box Dear Friends, Long Shadows has received a heap of critical praise lately, mostly for their top 2005 and 2006 portfolio, and we've been offered a few limited wood boxes of the Vintner's Collection (2006) - almost all of these were offered as "winery only" packs but a few have been handed around to retail in the immediate area (as far as I know, none of the packs made it outside of the NW - the winery is already completely sold out of all the 2006's so this is the last of the vintage - they are moving on to 2007 for the red wines). This is a great way to get a feel for this detailed and modern Washington State winery at a price that is below market for each item. Long Shadows has the highest aspirations for all of their wines and they will not be satisfied until their stable is considered the best of its type in the US. Considering the recent acclaim and relative obscurity of these 6-packs, this is a bargain at the mid-upper end (today's Tanzer will only add fuel to the fire - none of the wines in the portfolio received less than 90pts). A wood box was specially made for this set - it is handsomely etched and would be a terrific gift for someone special that enjoys the finest high-impact/fussed over domestic wines. Inside each pack you will receive: 1 - 2006 Pirouette 1 - 2006 Feather 1 - 2006 Pedestal 1 - 2006 Sequel 1 - 2006 Saggi 1 - 2005 Chester-Kidder (CK is always released late, thus the 2005, which was a behemoth vintage in Twice Walla) This is a one-time offer - the winery is giving us approximately 14 hours from now (seriously - 9:00am tomorrow) to take possession of the lot or they are going into their library for release a decade down the road: Long Shadows Vintner's Collection LIMITED wood 6-pack (focus: 2006) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA WA9970

(SEQUEL) 2006 Sequel Dear Friends, This is one of the more anticipated Washington State releases from the 2006 vintage, dubbed the "Columbia Grange" (instead of Columbia Gorge), John Duval has made his presence known with one of this country's most distinctive Syrah-based wines. The former maestro of Penfold's Grange has done it again with a wine that resembles the 2004 version with the youth of 2006 strapped to its back (you can look up TN's on the 2004 to give you an idea). I'll spare you the cut and paste of the Wine Advocate reviews from past vintages but the Tanzer review of the 2004 seemed pertinent to the style of the 2006. EXTREMELY LIMITED (unlike previous vintages that were widely distributed, most of the 2006 was sold out at the winery earlier in the winter): VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and still priced within reason. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY directly from the source with perfect provenance: 2006 Sequel (Long Shadows) Syrah Columbia Valley (750ml) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA WA8110 1937 2007 White Burgundy 2007 White Burgundy Dear Friends, Here's another terrific bargain with the 2007 White Burgundy vintage as its guide. In a stranger than fiction occurrence, Tramier has become more known over the last several years for their white wine than their highly coddled reds (I can see why but this would be like Mugnier being known more for Meursault than Musigny). Tramier did exceptionally well in 2004 and again in 2007 with their Macon offerings (both classic vintages) and the pricing simply cannot be beat. I'm not going to say they can't do well in more extractive years, but their success in medium-weight campaigns is undeniable (although they did win the Tastevinage award for last year's 2006 Saint-Veran - one of the highest accolades from their peer group - I would expect even higher praise for the 2007). This is a wine you can throw darts at - for less than $15, you have real white Burgundy from one of the epicenters of quality in the vintage (Saint-Veran). From a vineyard very close to Pouilly-Fuisse proper, Tramier uses little (if any) wood, preferring to focus on the vintage and varietal fruit instead - in a year like 2007, that's the formula for the most transparent success. A wine full of underlying tension, soil, mineral tone and ample presence, this is a 2007 white Burgundy that is almost a laugh for the tarrif (and it should drink well for several years). When I try a "grand vin" like this in the under $15 range, it makes me question an entire industry of Chardonnay in the US, Australia or anywhere else for that matter. It's hard to justify the importance of something like Aubert Chardonnay when this is available ... VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (you can't have enough of this everyday star) ONE SHIPMENT ONLY directly from the cellars at Tramier: 2007 Tramier "Saint-Veran" Grand Vin (Macon) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Burg8533
