June 7, 2015 - Still youngish. Shows reductive notes on opening, but with about an hour in the air, it's the full-on Alban experience. Huge, spiced tobacco and blackberry fruit, but not as much tar and smoke anymore, and the fruit is remarkably pure, with a nice bright core of black raspberry. It's gorgeous.

February 14, 2015 - Ordered at a restaurant. Decanted about 30 min before tasting. The sommelier warned it might be over the hill but it most definitely was not. This was a beautiful bottle of wine. We did taste alongside a 2004 of the same label and the 2004 was better, with more fruit still showing. But I would not be shy about pouring this 2002 for anyone. That said, there is no point in waiting any longer.

November 4, 2014 - Inky purple color, long legs. Aromas of violet, cassis, blackberry and cedar waft from the glass. The mouth feel is smooth and rich with early flavors of cassis and blackberry yielding to fig, chocolate, earth and cedar which lingers and lingers in a protracted very slowly resolving finish.

March 2, 2014 - Color: nearly opaque -> dark ruby rim. Enjoyed out with family so note abbreviated; intense bouquet of plum, roasted meat, tar, kirsch. Massive palate structure still. Slightly sweet fruit, dense, huge finish. Delicious and still with time in hand.

(Alban Vineyards Syrah Lorraine) Opaque very dark red violet color; big, deep, black fruit, espresso and caramel nose; tasty, blackberry, berry, black fruit and boysenberry palate, much more balanced than the '02 Reva; medium-plus finish (2nd WOTF)
