March 25, 2024 - This is pretty good. Some rancio and caramel. Moderately sweet, maybe a bit moreso that I would expect for a Verdelho. Missing the sharp acidic tang I want in madeira. Bottled in December 2019 as per lot # on the back label.
October 1, 2023 - Nutty, ashy rancio on the nose, then sweeter on the palate, almost a little candied. Warm on the finish, and some sweet cherry. Not especially complex, but tasty and good value. Best served fairly cold, with some salty cheese.
September 25, 2023 - Walnut, orange marmalade, maple syrup, rich honey, clove, dried apricot, slight saline and clove. Rich, viscous, immensely satisfying. The balance of the bitterness, sweetness, and moderate acidity is top notch. Pretty complex, with a very long finish. Perfect for a rainy fall day.
June 16, 2023 - Nicely done. Great balance of sweetness, oxidation, and acidity.
May 4, 2023 - Volcanic Wines of North London (Must & Lees): Oxidative, somewhat aggressive, pungent nose, full of grilled nuts and orange. Slightly sweet on the palate, with chocolate orange and more nuttiness, and a touch of salinity. Pleasant wine, but overpowered and outclassed by the Sercial (which, to be fair, costs 10x as much!).
May 4, 2023 - Volcanic Wines (Must and Lees, N1): Darker than the Sercial. Other than to note the colour, my notes say delicious and nothing more! Wait until you see the next note though....
November 20, 2022 - Pale golden, fruity and modestly oxidized nose. Just the right level of sweetness. Excellent.
November 14, 2022 - More medium than medium dry, this had flavours of lime and Seville orange marmalade. Any sweetness is offset savoury, saline and bitter characters. Complex, the finish is long and satisfying. Excellent. 92pts
November 7, 2021 - Agbanker nailed itinerary his note IMO. Nice
December 28, 2020 - Nose and palate: Wood, wallnut, bitterness and some brown sugar in the background. Elegance. Some complexity.
Medium body, medium acid+, medium tannins. Good balance and aftertaste.
