  January 21, 2010 - This scored very well for a value priced Merlot. I thought it brought something unique and special to the party. There is a layer of flavor, like a smoky cocoa, chocolate, tobacco and tea, that is not usually evident in this level of wine. I liked it a lot. Possibly we can attribute this taste to the generally cooler areas of southern Napa where they source their fruit. Or maybe to the addition of a small amount of Syrah. Or maybe to the use of higher percentages of American oak. Whatever, they made it to the 90 point glass ceiling. This one is balanced and solid throughout the aromas, flavors, mouth feel and finish.
