2/7/2005 (link)(Castello di Rampolla Sammarco) Right off the bat it was very apparent that this was not as ripe as the '97. Which is not a demerit against the wine at all. Ripeness is not all. Still this was very opulent on the palate but the tannins were more there and less fine than the '97. The nose was a bit more developed than the '97 with great complex spice, menthol, black berries, cherries and mineral. Despite the wealth of tannins this was pretty accesible but has some legs.
