December 26, 2023 - Probably a tad past its prime, but was good right out of the bottle; after sitting in the decanter (used to remove the sediment) it was bad about an hour later. Have 3 bottles left that I’ll work through in the near term.

May 12, 2022 - EYE: dark brick red, consistent with aged Sangiovese, transitioning to lighter brick and clear at the edge
NOSE: M+ intensity, dark black cherry, & black plum compote, leather, vanilla, purple flowers, touch of savory notes - soy sauce or hoisin.
PALATE: M body, cherry dominates the entry, M(-) acid. Blue fruit, then savory notes mid-palate, wraps with vanilla and fine M+ tannins, cocoa powder. M finish
OVERALL: still holding together after 16 years quite well but clearly has its foot in the mature wine pool. Dropping acidity and notes of voilatile acidity indicate soon is the best time to drink. I probably should have enjoyed this 2-4 years ago but was fun to see how this wine showed Brunello notes despite being 50% Cab Sauv.

December 26, 2019 - Good solid Cab/Sangio. Not decanted. Nicly rounded when poured initially. Nice fruit. Acidity got stronger with time in the glass/bottle. Good body throughout with good length.

January 3, 2017 - Cocoa and blackberry on the nose. Very powerful, imposing tannins. But it lacks finesse. Reminiscent of Vigna d`Alceo without having its complexity. Intense black fruits on the palate and a nice liquorice finish. Lots of terroir and cocoa.

January 1, 2017 - Opened this on New Years eve, paired with homemade sage gnocchi. This was one of the bottles shipped back from our 15th anniversary trip to Montalcino in 2015. My experience was most consistent with what Markwhite wrote below. The profile is one of blue fruit, cacao, and baking spices. The 2006 Madre is in a really good place right now, so I'm glad we opened this when we did. Still holding off on the 2010 Brunellos until they mature a bit more.

October 20, 2015 - A week in Tuscany (and Lots of wines); 10/19/2015-10/21/2015 (Tuscany, Italy): A 50/50 Super Tuscan blend of Cab and Sangiovese. 18 months in new French oak. Cherries and cassis along with some bell pepper on the nose. This has medium tannins still. The palate has a good amount of cherries and cassis. Some toasted oak. It has a nice complexity. I liked this wine and at around $40, I think it is priced reasonably.

August 27, 2015 - A sensuous, soft wine with a mix of 50% Sangiovese Grosso and 50% Cabernet. A creamy aroma with hints of blueberry and chocolate. Well balanced acidity and tannins with supple flavors of cherry and a nice finish with a bite. A nice Montalcino take on a super Tuscan and incorporation of Cabernet without being overly forward and sweet.

November 5, 2013 - Nothing special. Only drank two glasses in two days. To summarize: Bold wine with missing fruit and finesse. The bitterness on the palate and the missing balance made in not really a pleasure to drink. Did not finish the bottle.
