Community Tasting Notes 60

January 28, 2023 - Wanted to compare a pop-and-pour bottle with the remnants of yesterday’s bottle, and there is very little difference between the two. Explosive nose of black and red berries and sweet spice. Mouth-filling full body with some liqueur notes along with sappy dark berries and pepper. Medium(plus) acidity that lasts through the finish and urges another sip. This is a big, high alcohol wine, that keeps all of that in check. It isn’t the most complex Ridge zin, but a balanced, delicious one. Not sure if this will ever do the Zin-to-claret magic of some older Ridge wines but I sure would like to try one in another 10-20 years.

January 28, 2023 - Big, primary, with berries, pepper, pine sap, sweet oak. Well integrated tannin and medium acidity. Drinking like a youthful zin right now. Good.

September 2, 2019 - As the meal progressed and the Pagani ‘06 drained quickly, we opened this, poured one glass and put it away to avoid its temptations. Molasses dominates the nose and palate, but is quickly challenged by rhubarb, and cherry. The palate finishes with cocoa. It’s a very different wine from the ‘06 Pagani which has taken on claret-esque qualities. This East Bench is still big and full of Zin brashness, but still a delight to drink. A blended Zin of 92% Zin and 8% Petite Sirah. Some bits of sediment. 15.4% alc. With grilled London broil and charred shishito peppers. Recommended.

October 8, 2017 - A full nose of brown sugar, rhubarb, rosemary, black cherry, plum and cinnamon. The nose is smart, clean and complete. Everything follows through on the palate. With dusty tannins, and a spicy finish. Yes the finish is hard, and clunky. The color is deep and rich.

January 10, 2017 - As delightful as the 07 Geyserville opened last week was disappointing. Bright peppery black raspberry fruit with some notes of flowers and Douglas fir needles. Perfect for current drinking but can hold here.

(EAST BENCH Ridge) UPDATE: 4th of July Hours The warehouse will be closed next Friday and Saturday, July 3rd and 4th. Also, next Thursday, July 2nd, the warehouse will close early because of the Great Producers Tasting tasting at 5:30. To accommodate set up for the tasting, pick up hours are 11-2 (instead of 11-6). Please plan accordingly if you wish to pick up for the holiday weekend next week! Thank you, The Garagiste Warehouse ************************* Ridge Dear Friends, Paul Draper believes 2007 is among the 2-3 finest vintages of his career - enough said. Today, we present a selection of the new releases from Ridge and they are very promising indeed. This California stalwart needs little introduction and, while two California offers in one week is a bit much for us, Ridge is an exception. The 2007 vintage in Northern California has already caused a 2005 Bordeaux/Burgundy-like frenzy among Napa/Sonoma enthusiasts and we're just at the beginning. All of the entrants below command considerable attention and you can pretty much throw darts to find top-tier quality. If you are looking for a powerful California Chardonnay that actually tastes of its place and varietal, the 2007 Estate is quite underpriced versus comparable bottles from the Golden State - it will surprise a great number of you with its regal style. Ditto for the Geyserville. All are set to arrive in a few days and will be available for local pick up after the holiday weekend: 2007 Ridge Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay Estate 2007 Ridge Geyserville (Sonoma) 2007 was such a good vintage in Sonoma that this is destined to unwind (after its bottle shock) into a very long-lived version of this California classic. There are old-time (i.e., pre-cult wine) vintners that feel the 2007 vintage (in general) may be as good as 1968 in Sonoma - now that's high praise. 2007 Ridge East Bench Zinfandel (Dry Creek) Ditto for this wine - another Sonoma product that delivers a mouthful of fruit and substance for far less of an entrance fee than most. If you are a fan of the big and brambly (while still reigned in), this is for you. ...we also have a small parcel of this wine: 2005 Ridge Lytton West Syrah (Someone told me this wine received 95pts from somewhere but I can't find it - maybe one of you can let everyone know on the Forum board? What I do know is that this belies a California style, instead looking to Ampuis for its inspiration.) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA CA8710 CA8720 CA8730 CA8749
