December 29, 2011 - 2nd bottle. There is more depth here. The kiwi on the palate is still there with the new French oak delivering butter but considerably less than Cali competitors. This bottle was very much better than the last from a couple of weeks previous.

December 15, 2011 - Lightly chilled when opened. The nose is oak dominated, which is not what I remembered from nosing this wine in early 2009 at the vineyard. The palate matched the nose with the oak dominating proceedings, which is also not what I remembered. What happened to the fruit? The irony is that the oak is not absolutely overbearing, it only relatively overbearing because the fruit has disappeared. There is necessary, mild acidity. My first session with this wine included an overly alcoholic finish that forced me to set the bottle down for 24 hours.
On the second tasting, there was little change to the nose and palate but the finish vastly improved, with kiwi entering where the alcohol previously was. That kiwi tastes a bit like a ghost of what was.
The disappearance of the fruit on the nose and palate has me thinking that this wine is over the hill.
