August 7, 2015 - Aged Muscadet doing a mighty convincing Chablis impression. Green fruit, iodine nose and a lovely, nervy/citric palate with a delicate richness at the core that was not present when I last tasted this in 2009. Cut from a lean vintage, but given the glacial pace of aging here this should be able to go another 5+ years easily. Very nice.

March 4, 2009 - Citric and herbaceous nose with sea salt, crushed stones, greenish stone fruit, just slightly lactic. Tastes of green citric fruit, underripe stone fruit, mineral. Good concentration for this vintage, with a gentle mouthfilling quality and tightly clenched, razor-sharp acidity. Wonderful Muscadet with an austere, pinpoint style that reminds me of Pepiere's 2004s. Very tight, I'd give this another six months or else decant well ahead of drinking.

March 15, 2010 (link)(Domaine de l’Aujardière Muscadet Côtes de Grand Lieu Sur Lie, Loire Valley) Muscadet from its home in the Loire’s westernmost Nantais region is capable of sublime elegance, with the ability to produce both lighter styles for near-term consumption and wines with terroir-driven complexity for aging. Siblings Eric and Gaëlle Chevalier, working in the lesser-known Grand Lieu subzone, use native yeasts and extended fermentation to “express the vintage and the location.” A granitic foundation gives this wine a reticent nose, with quince, grapefruit, and lemon-peel flavors. Medium-bodied, it shows a discreet minerality, coupled with a medium-long finish, and should improve with a few years of aging. Hot Picks
