Community Tasting Notes 5

January 4, 2020 - no decant, but slowly drink over an hour or so
still beautiful dark colour with a tinge of brown.
initial nose is slightly mute with distinct sweet shiraz. rigorous swirl on the glass and time, shows an opened nose with bright less alcohol heat and pleasant plum and chocolate.
Palate: initially light smooth elegant, plum and chocolate.
over time, more earthy and dark chocolate more prominent.

April 9, 2019 - Pop and quick 10 mins decant
Colour: still dark and showing a bit age at the edge
Nose: plum and earthy soil, alcohol smell. After several more swirls and decanting, it improves with slight sweet plum and mushroom.
Palate: initially quite close. Ok but enjoyable on the second day. So recommended to be decanted an hour or so. Thirds day, tannin is stronger and more prominent - not as enjoyable.

January 24, 2010 - Color has lightened a touch, 90% saturated violet. Nose is medium intense, nicely balanced and has shed off some of the grease and cheesy-ness. Palate is also less unctious, but is maybe showing even nicer balance and grace without all the baby fat. Tannins are still plentiful and soft but the overall acidic backbone will probably only give this another year or two of support for the fruit flavors. Great qpr and can pair up from pizza to bbq with ease (treat like Zin) 4+11+17+6 = 88

August 19, 2009 - Sorry, Yanks. Won't find this in the states. Brought two bottles home from Oz after discovering this gem in a little wine shop in Port Douglas. A thick, complicated, fat fruit bomb with lithe body, supple tannins, and honest extraction that makes no excuses for being OTT. A Mollydooker in sheep's clothing and at Eliza Doolittle pricing. Love it (5+12+17+7) = 91

June 23, 2009 - Very dense purple >95% opaque. Big, unctious cassis and what I describe as "mud Au Gratin" (earth and cheesy potato) on the nose. Has a very creamy attack and powerful dark fruit palate. Lush, but simple, tannins with very large body and structure in there. Smooth, medium to long on the finish. Very nice. (5+12+16+7) = 89
