Community Tasting Notes 4

March 12, 2019 - A pleasant surprise. Nuanced, lively, complex. A rare and I doubt that good vintage, but overperformed for me.

October 29, 2017 - Opened with aromas of boiled carrots and other vegetables. Develops with somewhat wet iron water pipes. Leaves Ferrum aftertaste. In 1 hour in the glass showed some confeture of mixed red and black fruits.
Lively acidity which is the backbone of fine wine made it possible to survive and shine this 60 years old Rioja even from an average vintage of '57. Tannins are soft and transparent.
Overall a great experience and so far the oldest wine I ever had!

September 26, 2013 - Pure velvet. Like a lot of older wines, difficult to find dominant notes. Very balanced. Tobacco, leather. Fruitcake. Forest floor. Round. Long. Got better with air - not going anywhere in a hurry. First "serious" wine I bought on the back of a single cellartracker review, and not a regret to be had.

December 1, 2007 - The greatest Rioja, and among the most profound wines, ever tasted -- and from a vintage of little repute. Dark, powerful though at the end of its plateau of maturity; redolent of horse, iron, ancient oak, saddle leather, shoe polish, wet tobacco (my notes say"oxblood," which is perhaps evocative, but too fanciful to be taken seriously). Tremendous grip and length. Another unpromising vintage whose very best would come around in time, had anyone the courage to hold for decades on the off-chance of a miracle. At River Club for Meg R.'s 50th.
