February 23, 2024 - Waxy floral honeysuckle lime - key lime pie!
Rich textured, oyster shell lime-infused acidity
Mid-weight
Absolutely gorgeous
November 8, 2023 - Light yellow with remaining green tinge. Enticing white flowers and citrus aromas. Medium weight with a little glycerine. Excellent breadth of flavors including lemon confit, iodine, and soil. This is old enough to have shed the signature Raveneau hazelnut and beeswax to reveal more of its Chablis core. Surprisingly though, the acidity fell a bit short, depriving it of some intensity and tension. Excellent wine nonetheless and very fresh, just not worth its current resale price.
More vanillin and astringency the second night. Definitely not better.
July 27, 2023 - Opened at 4pm and drunk at 9pm. Along with 02, 04 and the majestic 2010, 08 is one of my absolute favorite vintages from Raveneau and it’s absolutely rocking tonight showing superb weight, density and waxy yellow fruit that’s layered with stony minerality and piercing lemony acids. 08 Raveneau is all about that Chablisian balance: proper levels of richness and acid, ripeness and minerality. Code yellow ftw 🙌🏻
June 17, 2023 - Good showing. Open a few hrs before we drank and with that amount of air feels fully resolved and ready. Touch of exotic on the nose I haven’t gotten before
May 19, 2023 - Tired, not very good acidity, wrongly stored?
April 2, 2023 - Another incredibly youthful '08 from Raveneau. A fresh nose of mint, oyster shell, preserved lemon and white peach. Great volume and fruit intensity in the mouth. Unctuous and full, layered and long. The finish crackles with electricity.
January 22, 2023 - blind
Very convincing, well integrated oak, still refreshing acidity, close to his peak. yuzu, almonds, balanced. 95
November 3, 2022 - Charleston Offlineorama VII; 11/2/2022-11/6/2022 (Various locations): A little reduction, and then wave after wave of classic Chablis minerality with Raveneau richness and slight oak. I can’t imagine this getting much better.
September 22, 2022 - The Return to the Ledbury (The Ledbury, London): A magnificent wine and once again much like the premier crus from 2011s of Raveneau ( Papies 94-96) its such a joy a comes back to asking why we bother taking the premox risk of 10yr+ white burgs when these are so superb. An even worse question is why did we sell our bottles back in 2016..
Bright and albeit evolved still very much a wine full of energy, soft saline feel, fattier in a way for a Chablis but in now way rich. Mineral, less of the flinty edge, limes and in a way savory. Easy 95 and what a beauty.
August 26, 2022 - Along with 02, 04 and 10, 08 is one of my absolute favorite vintages from Raveneau. Tonight it is excellent and still markedly youthful. A multi hour decant brings out its superb weight, density, waxy yellow fruit and stony minerality with piercing lemony acids and saline driven finish. 2008 for me, is all about that Chablisian balance: proper levels of richness and acid, ripeness and minerality. Code yellow 🥳
