April 17, 2017 - Une demi-bouteille.

96 pts

April 15, 2017 - Epic 2001 Sauternes Horizontal (San Francisco): Tasted single-blind. From a 375. Golden color; ripe dense aromatics, dried apricot, notable honey, some saffron; palate is medium-full bodied, still good balance of medium to medium-plus acidity, some almost floral components on the palate, significant honey; medium-long finish. Very nice density throughout but also with good freshness and complexity throughout. 94-95. This strikes me as the La Tour Blanche, and it is awesome.
Day 4: the aromatics on this are ridiculous today, even better than when first opened, orange marmalade, spice, saffron, honey; palate has excellent density but also wonderful acidity and freshness; long finish. Better than when first tasted and approaching the top wines of the vintage. 94-96

April 4, 2017 - Dinner and a Great Mix of Wines at Lonny's (Lonny's Place, Mpls): Medium dark golden color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. This was crazy good with Brad's Gateau Breton - just a super pairing. Very bright nose, pineapple, clementine, apricot preserves, spice. The palate is intense, powerful, very layered fruits, tropical, pineapple, orange, baked pear, honey, orange peel, spiced, great acid on a medium full bodied frame. Delicious as always. 94+pts.

March 12, 2017 - This showed the classic notes of orange marmelade, apricot, etc., but it was lacking in acidity; when I got to the bottom of the bottle I discovered a fingernail-sized chip of tartaric acid that had precipitated out. I don't know whether this got too cold at some point, or if something else caused it, but this wasn't as good as it could have been because of the lack of acid. Even so, it was certainly drinkable and pleasant.

March 4, 2017 - Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind (Chicago, IL): Enticing floral start that almost always makes me enjoy Tour Blanche. Rich and complex flavors start sweet, then botrytis comes forward, then lots of fruit. Very fun, very good.
