November 25, 2021 - Drank alongside an '00 Ridge Lytton Springs with Thanksgiving dinner, this was the showier wine. Peppery brambly fruit profile like you would expect in a mountain zin, this is rich and spicy and still quite fruit forward.

December 27, 2019 - Finally opened. Honestly wasn’t overly happy with my last bottles so I’ve been waiting for this one. Still not super pleased. Not sure I’d guess Zinfandel. Varietal notes?? Acid is pretty high. Red fruit predominates. Not over the hill. No off tastes. Just nothing standing out.

April 13, 2013 - Brought to a zin tasting and this was a highlight. Juicy acidity, laced with minerality and rocks. Boisenberry, spritely, definitely a food wine. Really impressed with how gracefully this has held up. Text book case for aging good zin a couple years.

August 29, 2012 - Drank with picnic dinner (pork ribs, grilled corn, potato salad) at the Hatch Shell concert on Storrow Drive. Agree with the pencil shavings on the nose, plus mostly plum fruit profile. Big but balanced, holding its alcohol pretty well. Very good zin but hate the fort-knox like impenetrable capsule.

February 19, 2012 - bright, succulent red fruits, high toned acidity. Dynamic wine, rises above the typical zin palate weight without being thin. Enjoyed this very much.

September 30, 2011 - Initially, a big whack of graphite (pencil lead), gradually fading into plummy fruit and a very tarry nose. Big, dense, with good bracing acidity and hiding its 15.5% ABV quite nicely. Not a small wine, but a decent Zin in the tarry and big mold.

July 29, 2011 - Quick TN: Much more together than the prior bottle last October. Slight sweet, red fruits, spice. Enjoyed with killer grilled burgers and Zingerman hot dogs.

February 26, 2011 - Berry, vanilla and wood pulp on the nose. Says 15.5% alcohol but it is very well integrated, no one at the table could believe it. The fruit is very restrained on the palate, no jammieness to be found. Sad its the last one. Hopeful they will give it another go soon.

February 6, 2011 - San Antonio Wine Geeks - The Great Lamb Feast (with syrah) (Home of John Webber): Initially served blind. There were many guesses to the varietal: new world Grenache, tempanillo, etc, none were close.
Nose with a slight port-like quality with mocha and cream. Pure red fruits on the palate—lots of cassis and cherry with a slight cranberry edge, leading into a lengthy creamy vanilla finish. Lots of American oak it seemed. Good wine, though I found the oak slightly oppressive and lacking complexity compared to the group. --I was corrected by the winemaker, this saw neither new oak, nor American. Oh well...you think you know something...

December 2, 2010 - 15.5% alcohol. Medium ruby red. Expressive red fruit nose. Rasberries dominate the palate impression, supported by strawberries, black cherry and spice. Exceptionally well balanced, good concentration and a lingering aftertaste.

Not an old-vine zin, but an exceptional zin from Mt. Veeder. Carole Meredith, one of the queens of Zinfandel history is behind this wine. My last one. No 08s were made, but I understand this beauty may be back for '09.
