December 24, 2023 - Wow, what a sneaky vintage and consistent producer! Great bang for the buck. Opened up for our Christmas Eve dinner & everyone couldn't stop ranting about how amazing the Bordeaux was delivering. Upon opening, LOADS of Perfume, Flower beds, and even some Earth, after about a 1.5 hour decant, the nose changed entirely to a much more barnyard style with oak, cedar box, lead, pencil shavings, and even some mushrooms which was a pleasant addition to the party! Beautiful bottle, drinking beautifully right now. Definitely not past it's prime, but I don't see getting any better than this.

December 24, 2023 - Quite resolved with cool dark berry fruit, slightly dusty tannins. A traditional, restrained claret drinking at peak.

March 24, 2023 - Large deepish ruby core, with brick-red going to russet at edge. Nose of new barrique, pencil shavings, malt and older, fading cabernet. Two hours later, the berry has been multiplying and is now showing more of a cassis outline, albeit of a slightly roasted character. Medium body, with sweetish berry immediately apparent, followed by a slightly oaky middle. Still possessing grip on the slightly bitter finish. The length could be better. Seems to need to soften more. It surprised me to find this bottle to be close to an exact replica of the one noted here in 04.2014. It seems that the wine hasn't progressed at all since. Be that as it may, this bottle of traditional claret was quite delicious and fine.

May 5, 2022 - Schön gereift, Frucht verbraucht. stumpf, sehr trocken. Kernig, nicht ausgeprägt elegant

March 12, 2022 - 12.5% alcohol. CS 50%, M 40%, PV 10%.The cork is above average in length and quality, and it shows little wine penetration. Decanted 75 mn ahead. The colour is medium with the onset of bricking at the edge of the rim.
The nose is a bit constricted, although the red berry aromas are pure enough; nothing complex though. The mouth is even sterner with prominent acidity and some greenness. In its favour, the oak is fully digested and there is good freshness.
Definitely not of cru classé quality, barely at cru bourgeois level in fact.
Incidentally, according to Jane Anson (who is usually well informed) Cantemerle was not on the original list of classified properties; it was included only after intense lobbying by the owner Caroline de Villeneuve.
