January 26, 2024 - Rieslingfan visits Albany; 1/26/2024-1/27/2024 (Châteauneuf-du-Salil, Albany): Ken double-decanted this a couple of hours before dinner, and this was magical. Such a spectacular aromatic profile that brings together layers of fresh and dried floral notes, a gentle tarry earthiness, sweeter red fruits, and higher toned herbal elements into an incredible scent. One of those wines I could have happily sat and just smelled for most of the evening. The palate is pretty spectacular as well - powerful yet remarkably gentle and light with that old wine sweetness to the fruit, and a long floral and earthy finish.

January 26, 2024 - Dave B visits Albany, Day 1: Auction Rieslings, 95 Grange, 67 G. Conterno (Salil's, Albany, NY): [Double-decanted around 4:30 for one hour.] More mature than my previous bottles. Ever so slightly starting the down slope. Still, a terrific wine of serious character. Nose of mulch and dried cherries. Long and complex.

February 3, 2023 - La Festa del Barolo: Gala Dinner (The Pool in NYC): One of those wines where I do wonder if the long term barolo decant would have had an impact on it. This was opened right before and double decanted and then served. It also feels a bit maderized in style. Sherry, dried fruits, potpourri. Did not seem to blow off with time but the time I gave it was measured in minutes and not hours.

December 30, 2022 - Decanted only 45 minutes. Pale but a dark red hue. I got quite a lot of volatile acidity on the nose - others found it funky. The palate is fresher. Changed enormously after just ten minutes in the glass to be a much sweeter and prettier wine on the palate with cherry fruit and a certain nuttiness. But the nose, while not unpleasant, precludes me praising this too highly. Perhaps a longer decanting time would benefit this wine - I simply have no idea. My first experience with this wine. Reliable provenance. A privilege to drink this of course.

December 11, 2022 - Decanted about 4-5 hours. Super light red/pink color, hugely different than the 78 Giacosa next to it. Light on its feet, wonderful bouquet, lots of cherry and truffle. A bit of oxidation. Still, nearly excellent.
